Hi, while reading the HardOCP review of of the VisionTek Radeon 9800Pro they mentioned that it came bundled with PowerDVD XP. Mine did not come with the cd nor is it on the Driver CD.

Anyone else with a retail package (i know your out there) can confirm or that they have gotten a PowerDVD XP cd?

I like it alot, and i have two things to report!

First of all, I E-mailed VisionTek and they said they would mail me the software! I am very happy with that because they responded within 24 hours (like thier website says) and did not try to pull some BS like "oh, it was there, you just lost it". I am very satasfied with their techsupport. And winDVD probly is better, but this one is free :P

Second story

I was walking though my campus with my VisionTek shirt blareing, and i saw someone with the same shirt

I said to him 9800Pro?

He said "yup"

it was an exctieing moment.

No, ill give you a more detailed description.

I was walking out side, and i notice someone else wearing a black T-Shirt comming my way, note that it is quite warm out side and wearing the shirt you stick out quite a bit.

As we approached eachother i could see that it was the VisionTek Logo on the front!

I though to my self "do they put the T-shirts with their 9500's also?"

SO i had to find out What he had!!!

I was late for class so we did not have enough time but to exchange a few words!

Me: "9800 Pro?"
Him: "yup"

Then I thought to my self, "damit, what if he has a higher 3dmark03 score than me, no, no HE CANT never!!! Maybe i should get a faster cpu, that would give me the edge i need!"

For some weird reason I'm just visualizing that scene from the Simpson's when Homer grew hair using rogaine and ran thru the town screaming his joy, 'til he bumped into another guy running around screaming his joy and the both stopped and looked at each other and said, "Rogaine? WOO-HOO!"

Glad to hear you like your card, I'm even gladder to hear that VT is still super-cool with their tech support! :D

It was Dimoxinil, not Rogaine fool. :p

But that's exactly the picture I got in my mind when I first read that account myself. :D

*Pets 9800 Pro*

Excellent...

Got mine about 3 weeks ago, hasn't given me any troubles at all. Now I just need a P4C800 from Asus, a 3.0Ghz 800FSB w/HT & 2-sticks of Corsair PC3500....yessssss ;)

Never thought I would ever buy Intel or ATI again, but things change. AMD has lost its "price/performance" margin, and Intel has lowerd prices down to manageable levels. And the Bus speeds are getting fast enough to finally give the P4 the raw bandwidth it needs to get it runnin full tilt.

But anyway glad to see that there are more "9800 Pro'ers" out there than just I :D

Doobies!

Well, AMD is probably going to gain that performance lead back with the release of the AMD Athlon 64. :D

the Athlon64 and its measly 700+ pins will have a hard time with the new intel processors, but the Opertron (server part of the 'hammer' family) will pwn. I would really like a Nforce3 + Opertron system, they are very very nice.

I thought id Update everon on the PowerDVD Situation.

Status Deliverd!

Ill give VisionTek Credit, they have very good tech support. They did not ask me take pictrues of me with the card, include 3 photoid's, the box upc etc ect to get my PowerDVD, they also didnt claim "well you must of lost it"

LOL....Typical large corporation policy, prove to us you own the card, blah blah blah.

Reminds me of 3dfx though, when in 2000 (summer) I was bitching to them over the phone (called from greece to UK...brilliant) and some techie of theirs, just to get rid of me, sent me that drivers I wanted (but couldnt dl, didnt have internet then) via snailmail

Ahh...those were good times..

I don't really keep up to date on CPU's as much as GPU's, but last thing I read about the 64bit CPU situation was that Intel are releasing a pure 64bit part which emulates a 32bit CPU when running 32bit code, incurring a performance hit in 32bit apps..

AMD on the other hand were releasing 2 parts, a pure 64bit CPU for the server market, but also a 32/64bit part which will run 32bit code in hardware, keeping performance high.

..or have I got that so wrong it's not even funny?

Sounds like we were mere seconds away from the first ever 3D Mark-envy related murder... :p
