So I am looking to order a SATA raid card, on newegg, they have both pci-x and pci express interfaces listed. Is there a difference?

I think PCI-E is the longer one almost like AGP size . . .PCI-X is more like the size of your weiner . . .an inch or so ;) LOL.

Gotcha, I indeed need the "weiner" sized one, thanks for the reply.

This isn't correct. PCI-E and PCI-X are completely different buses. PCI-X is 64-bit PCI and is actually much larger than regular PCI slots, more like old fashioned ISA length. The small, medium, and "AGP-sized" slots on today's boards are all PCI-Express slots, but contain varying data speeds.

The large, dark green slots are PCI-X.

It was designed primarily for server boards that required more bandwidth than PCI could offer.

Hence newegg haveing over 100 pci-x raid cards, severs are the primary users of them....

...Because he didn't when he asked originally? I told him the difference and then he went and found a picture of reference in case others had a similar question.

What's the problem with that? :headexplode:

Well PCI-Express 1x only offers double the bandwidth of the 32-bit PCI bus, so a high end RAID card still wouldn't have enough available.

And sorry nekro, I'm wound a little tight tonight.
