DALLAS - A teenager was blinded after being struck in the face with a frog shot from a so-called "potato gun."
Daniel Benjamin Berry, 17, received the injury after he looked down the barrel of the gun's PVC pipe barrel and was hit in the face by the frog.
"He is going to be blind in both eyes," Daniel's mother, Lisa Berry, said.
Potato guns are made of pipe with one end sealed. A potato is wedged into the open end and a flammable liquid put into a sealed chamber is ignited, launching the object.
Denton County Sheriff's Department spokesman Kevin Patton said the accident occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday when Daniel Berry joined a crowed of teenagers watching the gun be fired.
When it misfired, Daniel Berry looked down the barrel to see what was wrong when the gun went off, Patton said.
"He said it just went off. It was a misfire. It hit him square in the face," Lisa Berry said, adding that her son had broken bones in his face that would require surgery.
Patton said no charges would be filed.
"This is the first incident involving a potato gun that we have had to deal with," he said. "What are you going to do? This was an accident."
Lisa Berry said the accident ruined her son's career dreams.
"All he ever wanted to do was be an Air Force pilot," she said. "That isn't going to happen now."

omg, sorry, but I gotta laugh at this. Who the hell looks down the barrel of anything that is loaded? even if it is a frog LMAO! we've all done stupid things, but man, I don't know, I couldn't picture myself doing anything as dumb as that.
ah, the great potato gun, great fun:) In Utah, a friend assembled a "pumpkin" gun and tested it on a shed, hehe, as you can imagine, there is no shed any more:D
Maybe this is a sign, maybe he wasn't cut out to be a pilot, imagine him sticking his head into the thruster exhaust of a jet aircraft :|

any retard who stands there and gets shot in the face with a FROG may not really be fit to patrol and protect us in the air flying multimillion dollar aircraft...

btw.. the frog could have then been sent to a french restaurant and been called freedom legs or something...

I wouldn't trust a child with even a rubber ball, let alone a potato gun. It may not be a weapon in the hands of a normal person but kids tend to be complete idiots and dangerous with even basic stuff.

I couldn't help but laugh at this one. Obviously this kid wasn't on top of his potato cannon safety rules. My friends and I had a ton of fun last July 4 weekend with potato guns. It was good, clean and nobody was stupid enough to get shot in the face. :D

I once nailed my hand to a wall with a home made nail gun. That was interesting, liuckily it passed between the bones in my hand and just left me with a big hole. I never thought elastic bands could be that powerful ;)
