It was said 9800 GX2 is the replacement for the 8800 Ultra, about 30% faster, but nothing is confirmed.

what about the 9800gtx? thats supposed to use the new design rather than basicly slapping to two 8800gts's together like the gx2

I thought I read some place that an actual "new" card (not 2 G92s slapped together) wont be out until maybe as late as August.... I could be wrong but, I personally wouldn't buy an 8800 Ultra right now with the idea of stepping up... I would most definitely classify that as a gamble.

Get a gt for now, good price/performance

Isn't the 9800gx2 rumored to retail for $449? If thats true, it's not a bad deal.

An Ultra is just a waste of money :thumbdwn:
Get a gtx instead. You can get an oc2 one w/ near-Ultra clock rates for little more than a normal gtx.
The 9850 gx2 dual-chip card (two g92 cards sandwiched together) will be probably your only possibility for an upgrade in the next 90 days, as the really new cards will only appear in Agust at the soonest, as I've read.

Not entirely true.

for $60 more, you can get the MSI ultra OC. 660mhz/2300mhz ram. ($540 vs $480 from newegg)

By far the most attractive buy for the power user not interested or not with enough room for SLI (which I happen to be).

so in my opinion, it was definately worth the $$. Especially back in like... october or whenever the crysis SP demo was released when I just bought it... it was only $570 and had a $40 rebate.
