I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to thru a GF2, 3 or 4 based AGP card in that mobo, they should all work just fine.
What a waste, you will spend more upgrading it than it's worth even after the upgrades.

Actually I know a GF4 won't work in a 1x slot because there are voltage differences between the slots. I'm not sure if even a GF2 would work in a 1x slot. IMO your better off getting a PCI card because there are a lot newer chips on the PCI bus that would work. But either way it seems pointless.
@Tr1cK: I agree completely. There is no point in buying a graphics card for a pc that can't run anything anyway. Even if the majority of their games are 5 years old there will still be that game that they will want to play that won't run.

Your wrong, a GF4, FX and 6 and 7 series card will work in a 1x slot. I happen to have a 1x slot Slot 1 board with a P2 233 and installed and used a GF4, 5900, 6600GT and a 7300GT in it and they all booted up just fine. Because I was curious as to why as I knew the GF4 would work but uncertain of the others, I looked up some info.

All teh cards mentioned above have the 3.3V and the 1.5V key slots which is why more Nvidia cards that were AGP worked with older hardware and ATI didn't. Seems ATI figured it was cheaper to not key for those who still had 3.3V based sloted boards where as Nvidia did. Hell, even my BFG 6800GT AGP card has the 3.3V key slot on it would most likely work.
Although I will agree that unless you can get a new card for the guy for around 20-30 bucks, its a total waste of money.

Hmm, that's kind of funny. I can't say as I would bother trying to put a GF4 into a pc that old but if it works cool.

LAWL!!!!
Man...uh...I think I've got a PCI GeForce 2 lying around somewhere.
A 466 mhz processor though.....it isn't even a Pentium!! It is an ancient celeron, lol! I think it is time to throw it away. :p

Well, if you're satisfied with Windows 3.1... it's just too damn slow for anything above that :D

Around 105$+10$ shipping. You got a CPU, MOBO with PCI-E16, RAM and basic Geforce. I ran FarCry and Ut2k4 easy on a setup like that. You just need to scavenge some dude's AM2 stock cooler.

So is this a joke? :p
I don't really see the point in upgrading a computer like that, especially if it runs windows fine. :p

I found another pc I didn't realize I had ,She can have that.

I hear what you're saying (and I realize the OP has changed the subject from AGP to PCI) but my experience with GF4s in i440BX boards has been slightly less than stellar. I do not know whether it is the power requirements or the AGP voltage or what, but I did have problems getting the setup stable under high load. I had resorted to GPU lapping and copper heat sinks at the time and still.

So whats the agp slot where its keyed the other way around?
It'll run XP or 2K fine as long as you have at least 256MB RAM, otherwise you'll want Windows 98SE or Windows Me. WinMe is ok as long as you thoroughly update it and disable its awful bugged system restore. You definitely must use Firefox or Opera instead of IE6 (latest u can get for 98 & Me.)
Any PCI vid card will work.
BTW, there is no AGP 1x slot. The earliest are AGP 2x. If it had even a 440LX chipset you could still run a GeForce FX 5950 or Radeon 9800 XT. Be a little CPU limited, but hey now! Those cards are the fastest ones that were still backwards compatible to 2x 3.3v.
So whats the agp slot where its keyed the other way around?
Need a photo plz lol. This sounds like one of the old CMR or AMR slots.

1.5v was the answer to my question, just wondering.
http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_Connector_AGP.html
The mobo showed "agp 1x, 2x speed" in cpuid but that was referring to the onboard graphics or chipset maybe ,Theres no slot.
