Or GTS 512 if you want to spend another $20-30.

Don't let ppl tell you the opteron holds ya back.
Upgraded from a G80 to G92 GTS and the gain was immense.
If your opteron overclocks well it is all you need. 3dmark will be noticable lower.
Games will run very well though. Especially when you plan to play in high resolutions the difference between CPUs gets hardly noticable.

I game at 1920x1200 and am almost allways GPU limited.

+1 on the GT.

8800GTS 320MB is no longer a good option. Likewise, either is the 640MB version. If you cannot afford 8800GT (Superclocked or otherwise), the next step down is ATI 3870 for about $40 less. It performs in around the 8800GTS640MB zone. But if you can swing the $40 extra, get a GT. The next step up from 8800GT is 8800GTS 512MB. It's nothing like 320MB and 640MB 8800GTS at this point. It sits between the 8800GT and GTX.

3870 - $229 (really should now drop to $219 versus the latest pricing from nVidia now)
8800GT - $269
8800GTS(G92) - $319 to $349 dependant on brand
8800GTX - $469 typically but with rebates I have seen $419!!

Pending the reviews of the dual GPU cards about to arrive I am looking at going to one of those or the 8800GTS 512MB (G92) through my stepup program at eVGA. I have the Superclocked 8800GT ATM. :)
