Electronic Arts is to release a free online version of the popular Battlefield game to be supported by adverts and micro payments.

Gamers will be able to buy items which customise their appearance in the world, but will not be able to seek an advantage through buying weapons.

Finally EA give us a slice of that ad revenue they've been getting. Anyone else think this is potentially a good thing?

Ok so this is the company that GFW Sean was talking about changing direction

Makes sense, EA has identified a long time ago that PC online sector is growing and they need to get in on it.

kinda looks like TF2 art style wise.

It will be interesting to get more information especially the part about the server side of the game. I'm really excited about the Team Fortress 2 style, which I love but hate their small maps.

I don't see the big deal with this game, its free.....

When it's released, download it overnight (so you don't waste your time) and give it a try. - don't like it uninstall it, that simple.

Remember when everyone complained about TF2 going "cartoon"....

The only issue I can see is how intrusive it is, that will be the big question and my personal concern.

It is.
I cant help thinking this might be neat.
TF2 ripoff indeed, but on the other hand, if they intend to go the BF route there´s gonna be tanks and stuff and it should be different gameplaywise from TF2 even tho it looks pretty similar.

And, with the pricetag of 0 bucks it cant hurt to try it out.
The "Free" thing, coming from EA, sorta hints that there isnt alot of manhours put into it.. but you never know.

It does seem like a TF2 ripoff, but I like the idea of a free ad-supported game. Enemy Territory (the original) was a great game and it was free.

I'll definatly give it a try when it comes out.

I'm def not a fan of the cartoon style stuff, but I will certainly try this, and hey, maybe they'll actually have grenades! ;)

Now where the hell is QuakeZero????

i wonder if blocking ads will be possible. if they use a seperate ad server, it should be easy.

My goodness, you people will bitch about anything.

So we get a free game and you bitch about the art style? Is only one game allowed to have a certain art style? Who cares if it's ripped off. It's a good style.

Is this BF3?
No, Battlefield Heroes is not Battlefield 3. Battlefield Heroes is one of many Battlefield games in development by DICE, including Battlefield Bad Company for PS3 and Xbox 360. We have not made any announcements regarding Battlefield 3.

Why not just BUY Q3A?
cant cost that much, QZ is basicly a web browser adaptation, using the same old engine.
Should be pretty much exactly the same game shouldnt it?
