Dear list,

I've got a problem with my linux workstation. I've been working with my NVIDIA QUADRO for years now and last week the X server did not manage to start upon reboot.

The log file I get from X is in attachment.

I've tried to download a more recent driver, but the error I get upon running the .run file is: Extraction failed.

Please, any suggestions?

Every help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Claudia

Did the problem start when your installed some updates?
Was there a kernel update?

Dear Nigel,

Thanks for your answer.

No: it did not start with any kernel update, but simply upon rebooting.

I was suggested to download a new driver, but I only get "Extraction failed" messages upon running the sh .run command. I've tried with different drivers, but I get the same message.
Any command, please, that I could try to get at least a diagnosis of this/these problem?

Thanks,

Claudia

To my UN-educated eye it looks as though you are running off the vesa driver, or attempting to.

Generate a bug report with 'nvidia-bug-report.sh' and post it along with your xfree86 log in the nvidia linux forum.
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14

That forum is moderated by nvidia folks themselves, very helpful.
