I can't seem to figure this out on my home network.
I thought I set everything up right and have gone over multiple websites/ How To guides and it still won't connect or seem to find the printer.
Suggestions, tips?
Instead of adding a local printer, though, I clicked Printer Connection and then browsed the network for the printer
did you try that??

either that or are you connecting through an IP?

I tried that. A printer doesn't show up; and it should. I just get the other computers on the network but no printers pop up.

is the printer set to be shared on the host pc? also, that host PC has to be powered on and logged onto for the sharing to work

Uhm, I am a dummy when it comes to networking, not sure. The printer is attached to a computer which is attached to the router. The other PC's are wireless, including mine, which I am trying to get to be able to print on the hardwired one.

I went to START --> CONTROL PANEL --> PRINTERS & OTHER HARDWARE --> PRINTERS AND FAXES --> right clicked on the printer and went to the sharing tab and checked Share and gave it a name.
It also has the hand underneath it so it should be accesible.
Could it be a router setting? I have MAC-Filtering on. That couldn't be it, could it?

They are all Windows XP Pro except for the one the printer is connected to is XP Home. Please tell me thats not the problem. If I have to reformat and install pro, I will go ape****, lol.
I should add, I had this working before earlier this year. At that time I had XP home though. I also had it working with Vista when I first installed it and now I went back to XP Pro and I can't seem to get it working anymore.

lol. i'll say that if it were pro, this would be easier. to test that theory.. try sharing your printer from one of your XP pro boxes and see if you can connect to it. take the Home Xp out of the equation. Also, all your pc's use the same ip scheme right? like, all of them are 192.168.xxx.xxx, and the last 2 octets are similar?

The main machine (The one the internet comes through and the router) is 192.168.1.1
The rest follow that in sequential order, 192.168.1.x

excellent. that means they can all see each other. now test the printer on a Pro box becasue I dont know how nice Home is going to be in this case...

Well the PC the printer is hooked up to is the Home PC and I can print locally form that one PC only. The rest XP Pro PC's can't connect. (As you already know.) So do you want me to hook up the printer to a XP Pro machine?

yeah, hook it up to a pro box, then install it and share it out just the same.

So what is happening is I don't have permission to get to the other PC's from mine. I am connected wirelessly and when I click view workgroup computers and click on the one with the printer so i can click on the printer and install the driver, it says I don't have permission. This is so irritating...

Alright, tried that, didn't work.
Anyone else have any other suggestions? This is just stupid now. It has worked before and for some strange reason it won't work now.

Alright zoomy. I put XP Pro on the computer that didn't have it so now we all have matching OS's. It still doesn't work.

Are you sure that the login you are using has matching passwords on host and client machines? Same Workgroup?
