Yeah it's a TN.

I have that monitor for my PC actually. My opinion is that it's a good but flawed monitor. Compared to everything else in it's priceclass I'd say it is one of the better choices. And if you fully understands it's flaws and can accept them, it's an excellent screen.

The faults are that in a total black screen a little light will leak in in the top and bottom of the screen, some of the wider viewing angles results in loosing some color precision and brightness and it's white is not 100% white, it's more like very very bright grey but in my experience this is an issue with the vast majority of the PC LCD's out there.

None of these are major annoyances IMO and if you're just looking for a 22" widescreen for your PC with a stellar design great value, 2232BW can be it. I have read that there is some kind of "panel lottery" involved that you can get a slightly better or worse monitor by chance, but I don't think the difference is that big. However a friend of mine is just buying a 22" wide right now and he told me that there's a different samsung that gives you the best panel garanteed (however just the same panel you can be lucky getting with the 2232BW), I can check it out if you want.

As far as i understand this is their only 2ms 22 wide, they had other options but they were 5 or more.

Nope, this one is also 2ms. Check it out, the name is Samsung SyncMaster 226CW. It should be a bit more expensive than the 2232BW but no panel lottery. I don't really know that much about this other one so read up reviews if you want, but either of these two monitors would serve you well I'm sure :)

I'd highly suggest the Dell E228WFP. I think Mike had it listed for $239 on the front page.

I bought an adjustable stand for it off Ebay for $25.

Click the first link in my sig to see it on my desktop.

I built a rig for someone recently with this monitor and my only beef with it was a poor angle of view. If I where not sitting pretty much directly in front of it, I could not read the screen very well. Thats not the case with my BenQ.

how about 19"'ers... what is the best wide 19"er lcd today?

Why buy one? unless you are restricted on space save up for another month and get a 22"

19" wide monitors are about the same height as a 15" 4:3.

Just to add fuel to the fire, I bought a 22" Chimei $200 on the egg a while back and LOVE it. Yes its a TN BUT its super light and I can take it to LANs and not have to worry about someone muffing it up.

I also have the CW Samsung. the contrast is a little worse on the Chimei I have to have an all black screen to visually see the difference. but in the end the only reason I use the Samsung over the Chimei is because the power light is blue and matches my case:o

big mistake. you shouldn't go by what one person said without doing your own research. the 226cw is the same as the 226bw but with an enhanced color gamut. while this sounds good on paper most of the professional reviews have said the 226bw is a much better lcd overall because the enhanced colors don't look any better for most standard viewing applications BUT more importantly the 226cw has horrible input lag for gaming compared to the 226bw. The 2232bw on the other hand is the newest and best 22 inch TN Samsung makes. Most lcd manufacturers have somewhat of a panel lottery in this pricerange but it's hard to notice the difference unless you are really picky and if you do there are color profiles you can download that supposedly even things out. Regardless of all that with the 2232bw no matter what panel you get Samsung claims they are all being calibrated evenly now from the factory ulike the earlier models.

check out this review of the 226cw from digitalversus.

http://www.digitalversus.com/article-358-2507-36.html

if you go back to their main 22 page you can see both the 226bw and 2232bw do much better.

http://www.digitalversus.com/article-358.html

there is also a way you can compare photos of them all together on that site but can't find the link to do it right now.

Neither should you trust only one review? Why don't you provide link to more than one single review when you say "most of the professional reviews have said..."? I'm not trying to offend anyone here, I recommended the guy to some research first as I don't know such much about the 226CW as I about the 2232BW I just let him know of it's existance and what a friend of mine said about the panels, so I don't feel guilty of anything, but I do find it a bit suspicous that I can find positive reviews on this monitor as well when you basically say that all professional reviews are in agreement:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=179948

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/22inch_14.html#sect0

But as far as I can see this monitor is scarce on reviews in general.

well I saw most of the poor reviews of the 226cw around the time it was released last year. I didn't bother to bookmark any of them however I was trying to make a similar decision myself. I didn't mean to be rude in my previous post, I just think the 226cw should be avoided especially considering the higher cost. That digitalversus site is pretty reliable. Another good one where you can read about all the 22 inchers is behardware.

If you want to see what other regular people think a good place to look is here. Do a search for the various models you are interested in.

I got the screen today, its great and its by far better than anything ive had before. And i cant say i notice any increased input lag compared to my crt so thats not an issue. I played UT all evening and the colours are vivid and clear.I'm happy with it,sure there might be another samsung that's a bit better but that doesnt matter.

well that's cool if you like it then. you will probably never know which is really better because ultimately you'd have to have both of them side by side to compare.
