So now that my tax return will be coming soon I was thinking of building the ULTIMATE system. But!!! This ultimate system will be using old technology!! YES, I was thinking of making the best F#$king AGP system! I need your help to gather what the best CPU, PSU, GPU available is!! Thank you for your support for this odd project. :captnkill:

It's a hard choice between a competent socket 939 system or the Asrock Dual775 (there is another one they make, I forgot the name) board that supports Conroes and AGP. I think the Asrock would be the best choice even though it probably won't overclock well, the 775 chips don't need much O/C to whip a 939 chip. It would also support DDR2.

Why?

Why?

Agreed. Old technology is not necessarily cheaper...

Maybe the Agp system will be able to churn out a 4000+ 3dMark06 score? =P
Well, I was just wondering what people will say? On my ancient system my 6200oc 256mb video ram sucks. So maybe an 8 series card once the 8400 (agp) comes out? :captnkill: :p

I love "vintage" stuff, but I don't really see any point in this. Unless you are seriously attached to AGP cards there isn't any reason to do this. They are still being made, it isn't like they are obsolete. They are just more expensive and slower. :o

Maybe you should invest in a compact budget gaming machine as a project. For example, a good micro ATX board, a decent CPU, a good compact cooler (to overclock a bit), and a nice slim video card that will all fit into a small HTPC or desktop case. Go for the highest performance possible without taking up a lot of room or breaking the bank.

It'd be a lot more interesting than using slightly out of date hardware that costs more and performs worse, at least to me. Plus something like this can be used as a HTPC or a console replacement system.

agreed with other dudes. Sounds good til you get into it. You'll be surprised just how expensive it will turn out and you sure as hell wont get any of it back lol.

you might as well go for a hooker or 2. Or if you're religious get seriously pissed.

or build a normal pc in a htpc etc

Well about 4 years ago I built my 1st computer. It was a Shuttle, what about making a modern day Shuttle? Anyone know a good site for an amazing barebone pc? I was thinking a budget of around 700$$

Just go to newegg.com and look through the cases a bit. Find one you like and work from there.

A decent micro ATX board (like the gigabyte G31), 2 gigs of ram and an E4500 won't cost much. If the 9600GT was out now it'd be a perfect card for that setup, but you'll probably have to settle for a 3850 right now. That'd make an awesome little HTPC and those components should only cost you around $350-$400 (plus drives and the case and maybe a PSU).

If you have to spend it all and do what "they're" counting on (giving it right back heh) do it on something else.

You already have a killer rig, so you spend it on an agp system that sure as **** ain't runnin crysis or ut3 and if its some classic gaming box, get a second hard drive and do that sh^t on a 2nd drive with the good hardware.

Agp is dead for a reason, don't dig it up.

Haha yeah just to let you all know. I haven't even received my rig yet!!! Still waiting on cyberpowerpc.com to get the dam thing. Right now im on my P.O.S dell that has a crappy 3.2ghz p4, 3 gb ram, Ati x300 card, and a 300 watt PSU. Don't ever get proprietary (spelling?) junk!!! Anyways thanks all for the advice! I will definately look into getting a nice little lan party computer!! :captnkill:
