I'm in need of a 2nd computer for when I visit home (you know, college, spring break, summer, etc), so it won't be used all that heavily.

I've already got 4gb's of ram stocked up, and I plan to drop my 7800GTX in the machine when I build it. I'm just torn between these two deals that end tonight.

E4500 + ECS 630i/7100 for $120
or
Celeron 430 + ECS 945GCT (intel chipset) for $50.

Which do you think is a better price/performance ratio?

The word 'celeron' should be blocked by the word filter.

No it not good, Celeron is a single core while E4500 is a dual core CPU.

If here are $70 E2160 or $50 E1200 deal then get the cheapest one, both are dual core.

Or if here are only 2 deals, get E4500 bundle deal as E4500 is 2 times faster than Celeron 430.

Agree 100%.

Get at least an E21xx series CPU if you plan on doing any gaming at all. Celerons are quite bad, especially compared to the Core 2 (which is what the Pentium Dual Core E21xx are).

An E4300 is a great CPU and will actually overclock to be extremely fast, and an E21xx is pretty capable too if you find you want a bit more speed.

Between the two choices you have there, I promise you'll be much happier with the E4300. And actually, that's a steal. I can't find any other parts that would be a better buy than that.

Get the E4300 combo while its still available for that price.

i bit on the E4500, i may still pick up that celeron, for the price of a game, my sister can have a desktop pc (already have leftovers) to run word and whatever else she uses

im surprised how well featured that 630i board is, DVI, 45nm support, only 2 ram slots, but whatever, im actually very surprised, the 630i chipset looks great from a chipset standpoint, hell, i can even run the integrated video until i upgrade my 7800GTX to something else.

though in fairness the good things about celerons is that you can overclock the mother ****ers til they burst (not literally ;)) and no feel guilty about it.

As disgusting as it sounds when I went to the dump with my father, some dude was throwing away 50 odd pcs. I asked him if they were working to which he said nay-there were no graphics cards in them. He didnt mind me taking all the chips out though. I got quite good at it by the end. Upshot was I have/had a **** load of celeron D 2.4ghz :D .

hmmm I wonder where the box is :D

No, that's not enough. The wordfilter should change "celeron" into "******tits" :captnkill:
