Keep in mind the Q9450 only has an 8x multiplier, so that might hurt your OC. Personally I am going for an E8500 with the 9.5 multiplier. Nvidia boards dont seem to get the FSB as high at Intel boards so the 9.5 mult is important to me. The advantage of quad over dual is not apparent to me, so I'm waiting another year before I go quad. I'd rather direct my money into the higher multiplier and raw clock speed than into two more cores which rarely get used.

Regarding the GPU another option is the 8800GT, which is probably $150 less than the G92 GTS and almost as fast. Might be better value for your money, so I would compare those two cards in detail and see which one gives the most bang for your buck. The G92 GTS appears to be a bit faster than the GTX, while the 8800GT is a bit slower than the GTX, though with $100-$150 in savings.

I have that same HDD, and I quite like it. It does 55MB/s on the read, and its can be had for a very nice price.

As to the RAM I'd go for DDR2 1066, and run it at a 1:1 ratio with your FSB. There is really no need to run your RAM faster than 1:1, so 1066 is fine. Just increase the timings to use up any headroom you have left over after your overclock. I got a 2GB kit of Crucial Ballistix for less than $150 and I can easily run it at 875MHz 4-4-4-10 1T.

I'd avoid getting a nForce mobo, I had nothing but trouble with them.
Get an Intel P35 instead, like the Gigabyte ga-p35-ds3. Better OCing as well.

I went nForce just so I had the option of SLI on the table. Somtimes two midrange cards in SLI will outperform a single high end card. When I built my rig a couple years ago two 7800GT in SLI was faster than the fastest card out there, and it was the same price.

If I were building a system today I would probably get an 8800GT or G92 GTS and in year when the prices drop I'd add the second one.

if so will 4 gigs be a overkill? im gonna wanna play crysis and The Witcher / farcry2/DMC4 or will 2 gigs be just fine?

at least 4gb,

Better 8gb OCZ 4x2gb, Cheap and very cheerful

or just 2x2gb of what you like for now so you still have spare slots for later.

Yeah those are good ones. Mine were the ones without the LEDs, but thats a lot cheaper than what I paid, only for the next step up.

Right now games don't really need more than 2GB, but since you are getting Vista 64 you better go with 4GB. If I were building a system today I'd stay with XP and only go 2GB because I want minimal hassles, but Vista with 4GB doesn't even cost that muvh right now.

please reply

go for the G.Skill 2x2GB, no point in spending $110 for only 2GB, especially when those sticks are only rated 66MHz faster.
