Meh I was never a fan of X2 or GX2 solutions

I am not even a fan of SLI kind of solutions

DH shows the X2 falling to a much cheaper stock GTS 512Mb in; WiC, Lost Planet, Blazing Angels 2, Tiger Woods, and Crysis-

In addition to better averages the GTS has better mins in all of the linked tests save Tiger Woods. Those cards are as low as 269usd with rebate. Of course DH have always been nVidia fan boys so I am not surprised.

But why the 1280x768 res in Wic and Crysis? I am baffled. 1280x960 in Lost Planet is at least somewhat understandable.

But then they use 1920x1200 in the games where X2 outclassed the GTS and GTX and, in all but one, the Ultra in... COD4, DiRT, Quakewars, HL2:EP2, and Oblvion.

In Tigerwoods the 3870 single card beat the Ultra and GTX and GTS. Strange. Driver bug on the X2? Wierd.

Drivers will have to come out hard and strong but if this design becomes popular with devs? It will be amazing. ATI needs to dump a free 3870x2 equipped PC in every major dev house there is and leave it there with a big 1-800 number direct to ATI engineers.

i recently got an HIS 3870x2 as part of my friend's build. It's a great card, though we dont have exact benchmarks just yet. There were problems with Crysis (as you know, Crysis HATES multi-gpu solutions like the 3870x2, along with crossfire and sli), but games like HL2 performed great, playing with all the settings to the max with 8x MSAA and 16xAF, we were getting more fps than we needed.

The 3870x2 is a FABULOUS card, just make sure it fits, and wait for the right drivers :D. I dont buy games right after they come out, I would be prepared to wait a few weeks for the ATi drivers for the game to come out.

The response to EliteBastards review of the 3870x2 has been almost hilarious.

The review and comments:

This one made me chuckle. A bit.

CONCLUSION: Elite Bastards are ceritified NVIDIA bastards. No need for NVIDIA to produce better GPUs or improve drivers, just use your ***** reviewer at Elite Bastards and he will prove anything you want him to prove. Earth is flat after all.

Rage 3d are known ATIfanatics.
I've seen the not recommended status applied to the 3870x2 4 or 5 times now.

Sooooo SLI is no longer cool now I guess. Was pretty cool until AMD got dual GPU setups to work well. (nana2)

But shhhhhh.... Don't tell nVidia. They wont want to cancel the multi-million dollar promo machine they have running trying to get SLI to the masses. ;)

I think you got that assbackwards,ATI has been playing catch-up for a long time now and i think Nvidia perhaps has become less agressive because of lack of ATI competition vs the 8 series cards. No new highend card was released last december , we all thought/hoped the GTX/Ultra successor would be here now.

I strongly belive the new GTX would have been released much sooner if ATI would have been comptetetive in the highend market the last 18 months, its nvidia who need to be kept on their toes by ATI but theyve been busy trying and failing to catch up until now.

Ill tell you this much. Alot of the reviewers, reviews suck. If you install the cards right (right driver, multi gpu patches, and so on) the cards gives diffrent results.

You guys are gonna hate me. I now have projects booked for ATI/Intel and Nvidia separately . . .and all sponsored. ATI already gave me two X2s (well I need to pick them up from a bud). Nvidia has committed to GX2s, new mobos not yet released, procs, etc. Both project are going to be absolutely killer.

he new card won six out of the nineteen tests, at least at high resolutions, and in five more was comparable to Nvidia’s top-end single-chip solutions. This indicates its big potential.

On the other hand, it was either equal to or slower than the single-chip ATI Radeon HD 3870 in seven out of the nineteen tests, namely in Call of Duty 4, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Tomb Raider: Legend, Hellgate: London, Gothic 3 and Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts. So, in some of these games only one of the new card’s GPUs was employed, and in others CrossFire technology didn’t work altogether.

More reality as this card still has problems for a "high end" offering.

An ATI guy had a great line "Drivers are like fine wine . . .they get better with time."

I now have direct access to both companies so I will get you guys info as I can as long as it does not violate NDAs.

If NV tweaked the 9800GTX core like they did the 9600GTs, ATIs best will not be good enough, period. The 9600GT out does the 3870 in some benches, slightly behind in others. So if the X2 is roughly equal to a single GTX today, can you imagine how it will compar to the 9800GTX, let alone the GX2
