I'm currently looking into buying an x-box 360, and hooking it up to my computer monitor on my computer desk. I have a problem though, what cable is best for me to buy? A VGA HD AV cable adapter, or a DVI to HDMI cable? If the VGA HD AV cable is the solution to buy, can I use a VGA to DVI connector on the VGA HD AV cable? Will it still work? Help is appreciated!

what kind of monitor?

if you have multiple inputs just use the input what you are not using, this way no need to switch cables in the back, just switch input mode.

my monitor has dvi, vga, component and compsitive, since dvi is used for pc, if i would have to, i would use vga for xbox.

It's a Viewsonic SyncMaster 931BF. I use the DVI connection to my video card, an 8800GTS, so the DVI is used up and I have a free VGA spot. I guess that answers my question to use the VGA HD AV cable then right?

Why though? I think since the update to change colour reference values there is no difference between VGA, HDMI or component.

I would just use te VGA. I have the same situation as you with one monitor in my house. The DVI is used for PC and VGA for X360.
