So, i'm trying to hook up my TV to S-video plug of my ghx card(8800gts), using s-video -> composite converter, the screen comes up as following after a reboot and checking the cables:

it shows my primary monitor and says it found the tv too, cool!

well after i press 'accept', the TV fires up and shows the computer desktop, BUT ONLY AT 800x600 reso, and the primary screen gets converted to that resolution also, and if i try to change the resolution to higher the TV-connection dies out, also options for multiple screens disappear from control panel:
(to get the options visible again i have to reboot the computer)

and i also know that this TV is capable of supporting more than 800x600, since it had no trouble co-operating with my old ati9800pro at 1280x960

what i want to know:

are there any 3rd party applications that would allow me to force my ghx card to output the signal of parameters set by me through the s-video, even if there was no screen detected to be connected?

is this only me or heard of anyone else experiencing anything like this?

my current configuration:

asus P5K Deluxe, 0705-bios, 2gb ram, vista home premium, all released updates up to date, the latest WHQL-version drivers from nvidia page, 169.25

getting desperate here, if you have anything that might help, even if you arent sure, happy to hear all the suggestions

also i know my control panel is in finnish

Is Powerstrip the program you might be looking for?

Not possible in Vista unless your TV responds with EDID data. Powerstrip didn't help me. My Loewe Xelos TV (listed below) works with custom res @ 1440x820 in all XP variants but will not work with any res higher than 1024x640 because Vista sees it as a non plug and play monitor, no matter how hard I try to convince Vista it's not.

I had horrible EDID issues with my last monitor; you might consider yourself lucky, I couldn't even get an image until I got my new monitor.

I have the same problem as well with my GTX. I can't get higher than 800x600 with my secondary display, and even more troubling is that I can no longer play back videos full screen on my second display. I am using S-Video as well.

and that's why I don't use Vista often...
