Hi all!

The GeForce 3 Ti200 card came with my Micron Athlon XP 2000+ system. I have the latest nvidia drivers downloaded and DirectX 9. I am running Windows XP with all latest updates.

My system has been crashing while playing Warcraft 3 with a 'cannot write to memory' error. I've checked the Warcraft support forums / google searches, and it seems others with the same card have this problem. I've gone through the game website's well laid out steps (with regard to this error) to check drivers, etc. to confirm everything is up to date. Everything with my system and installation of the game seem to be fine. My box has dual fans, and plenty of circulation. I play WC3 with lower quality graphics, though I can play other gfx intensive games (UT2K3) with high gfx without a hitch. The only problems I can find are:

In the DXdiag there is an 'error' message saying an nvidia dll is not WHQL certified. On the Nvidia website, in the GeForce 3 section there is an emblem stating Designed for Windows XP. When I check out the product info PDFs on the same page, one states the GeForce 3 cards are WHQL certified for XP, the other states several other OS's except XP. The PDFs also state GeForce 3 cards are 'optimized' for DX8.

So my questions are:
1. Do you think the lack WHQL certification for the nvidia dll is cause for this kind of error?
2. Does anyone know if this video card (or drivers) are in fact WHQL certified (and should I care)?
3. Should I not use DX9 with this card?

(I have no other problems or symptoms with my system and software)

I'm not an overclocker and am fairly noob at video card diagnostics, so I'm hoping some of you can lend me a hand.

Thanks in advance!:)

You shouldnt have installed DX9 without a DX9 card! :p

Thanks. What do you think the chances are that DX9 is the cause of the problem I am experiencing? Since my card was "made" for DX8, does that mean I am not benefitting from the enhancements from DX9?

I'm trying to weigh my options of reinstalling my OS (which is actually not too much of a pain) and going back to DX8 versus leaving it as is at the sacrafice of only one application.

Any thoughts?

i dont think dx9 has anything to do with your problem...your gf3 should work fine with dx9. Are you using a mobo with a via chipset..if so install the latest 4in1..

Try to increase your AGP memory size in the BIOS.

Put your sys specs please...

see ya

No, not havieng WHQL drivers dose not effect you.

When DirextX 9 first came out i though "yay, ill install it" and most of my DX9 games then REFUSED to work, some said "DirectX is not present please install" some would just crash.

WarCraft III just crashed, i emailed blizzard about it and they refused to respond.

After DX9.0a it was finaly fixed. i was mad they did not put a patch out for it. Like other games such as StarFleet Command III.

Try reverting to the 41.09 drivers!

what drivers were u useing btw.

You say you've gone through the game website's well laid out steps? I think that's b.s. . Look all you need to do is enable "emulate table fogging in the Nvidia direct3d control panel" and all should be fine. I had this problem when I bought the game the day it came out and I looked on blizzard's site to see if they had any issues like this one and they did and it clearly said how to fix it. Also you should download coolbits and install it that way you can turn on-off vsync in the direct3d tab in the control panel and also you can turn on render no more than 255 frames ahead (i got like a 10-40 frames per second boost in all direct 3d games with that on) which can dramatically boost your fps.

Thanks Holering, I will try your advice tonight and see if it works.

I'm sorry you think I'm BSing you when I said I went through Blizzard's steps to resolve my error. I actually did go through the steps (or else I wouldnt say I did) as laid out here: http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=mwr0649p.

I tried a Blizzard support search on table fogging / emulate table fogging but nothing is coming up. If they have and explanation of the problem on the site, I'd love to read and learn about it. Do you have the URL to that support issue?

Sebvase and GlowStick, thanks too for your help. I'll try changing some settings first and see if that works.

Hey your right they don't say anything about enable table fog emulation. I thought wrong about you sorry :| . Beats me why they don't have that tip on there anymore maybe it was fixed through a patch or something. Well anyways good luck to ya I hope it works out for you. Later
