blue flashes before the NVIDIA splash screen

After installing the nvidia drivers for my geforce 2 mx, there's about 2 seconds of black/blue flashing when loading up X right before the nvidia splash screen pops up. It happened for me first under Redhat (9, i think, at the time), and more recently under my new gentoo installation. I'm just wondering if other people have experienced this and if anybody knows why it happens.

It happens to me on win98 and mandrake 8, but only with the official drivers....

I don't think it's anything to worry about though
