tell you the truth, unless you plan on running a server and downloading tones of porn. i see very little diffrence once your over 10megs...

i dont download "tones" of porn. i do d/l a lot of movies, music, some games and lots of 3d applications/dvds for school and what not. and its hard to seed back what you've downloaded with a 50kb upload plus i also share internet with my sister

How much is this premium service?!?!?!?? :captnkill:depends on if you want static or dynamic IP addreses. but the 10/2 service is something like 20 a month depending on your location in the country.

Fios is finally available where I live, price seems a bit high though.

5/2 = 42.99 per month
15/2 = 52.99 per month
15/15 = 64.99 per month

I am getting tired of 768kb/s, it's time for an upgrade.

I have the 15/15 plan...I love it, though I rarely use that type of bandwidth, it's nice to have.

Just bought the 50/20 plan. Don't really know what I'm gunna do with all that bandwidth but I'm sure I can figure something out. Maybe I'll use streammygame and play Crysis at work or something.

I wish I had that service, I would run a 24/7 TF2 server.

Is comcast the only ISP that is still stuck at 8mbs. RCN is up to 20, but they're small. Not sure about timewarner. But in maine comcast doesn't even have digital phone. When I moved from boston area to maine it was like going backwards in tech about 8 years.

The speedboost from comcast is a joke it only works on the first 20MBs of a download. I'm close to the NH border and I think Portsmouth and Dover both have fios.

Yeah, the speedboost thing is kind of silly. When I'm downloading big files is when I want extra speed. Not when I'm just downloading some 10MB driver or something. Anyway, I'm excited to test this thing out. They're suppose to come install it on Thursday. I'll post some benchmarks then.

I've got roadrunner and they just bumped the premium users up to 10mbs download, but our upload is still a crappy 512k :(

I'm on a 15/15 plan. This week Verizon is bumping all of those on this plan to 20/20 for the same price (though they don't do it automatically, you have to call). 512k = ouch...They also upgraded other packages such as the 30 meg package to 50 meg...They are upgrading due to the impending release of Docsys 3.0 (or whatever it's called) that is supposed to allow cable to offer 50 meg...

I can say this, verizon will be going with faster tears in the not so distant future. I'm not sure what the new tears are but from what I'm seeing i can say that it looks like they might start to offer 100/50 or 75/30 tears in select areas(GPON equipt). One of the Ilec guys i talked to said that some FIOS tests and i quote "full port usuage". so i guess we can assume by that statement that they might start to offer full 100/100 service ( at a price premium of course). I just have to say, its about damn time a major american company started to offer those services.

Damn. It took 7 seconds to download a 40MB file. Now what do I do with all that?

Edit: Here's something I'm not use to seeing. Download speeds actually speeding up and then remaining constant. With Comcast you get that deceptive speedboost for the first 20MB so you'll sometimes see speeds as high as 3MB/s which then throttle back to 750KB/s after a few secons. With Verizon my download speeds start out at around 750KB/s and work up from there to up to almost 6MB/s where they remain till my download is done. Love it!

Geez - those numbers are great!

Whats the cost for the 50M service?

Currently, I'm getting 18M down 2.5M up on Comcast.
