Yeah, it's on verizon.com. If you don't have a Verizon phone number, you can use your address to check availability.

I'm on FIOS now.

absolutely great. I'm on the 5/2 plan, and am very pleased.

Ping times are freaking ludicrously low. on prior cable company )COMCRAP) I would be generally 60-90 for online games. now: 5-20 (usually under 15).

5mb down is more than enough. I can saturate it, but I have to have multiple connections. no real server can push much faster than that under normal situations anyway.

I really can't say anything bad. No significant outages. (almost none really)

My recommendation: get it as soon as you can.

One warning: If you are an early adopter in as newly activated neighborhood, you will have sporadic outages until the local GPON lan stabilizes with the new user activations, 1-3 months.

and yes it takes 6 hours for a full install. but its worth it.

My only other option right now is Time Warner roadrunner. friends who are forced to use TW hate them, and envy me. Any future relocations: FIOS will be a major consideration.

Also: FIOS TV: also great. HD channels included (The DVR software still needs work, but compared to real TIVO, everyone else looks like a bad copy)

have you seen large verizon trucks with huge spools of wire on the back of the truck laying new cable? if not then i would say no...you dont have it...also if you dont see these bage boxes hanging on the poles then fios isnt availble in your area...

most ftp services can push 5 mbps with ease...

My recommendation: get it as soon as you can.cant deny that...

One warning: If you are an early adopter in as newly activated neighborhood, you will have sporadic outages until the local GPON lan stabilizes with the new user activations, 1-3 months. this makes no sence what so ever...gpon and lan are mutually exclusive...lol...besides verizon hasnt started deploying gpon out side of test area's, most new installs are still bpon

and yes it takes 6 hours for a full install. but its worth it.three hours...depending on the size..;)

I dont have them boxes on poles.. Everythings under ground and I havnt been able to find one of the boxes so I dont know where they put em. But yea you will know about 2-6 months in advanced if fios is getting installed.

unless your in a apartment or something like that which would be harder to tell.

well you'r right, if its underground your not going to see those boxes that i showed but he will see many verizon fiber trucks around the area when they are laying the cross connects underground.

It took verizon over a year to put the service online after they laid the fiber, my local government gave them some trouble.

ive heard nightmareish stories comming out of PA, i cant believe the local governments are giving them (verizon) this many problems to wire those towns with 21st century tech...i guess the town officials want their palms greesed....:headexplode:

I almost got FiOS. Then Verizon decided to abandon all network upkeep and improvements and sell their New England assets to a financially unstable POTS provider. :headexplode:

I saw that same add thingy, verzon cable, FIOS, and landline for $109.99 and a free 32" HDTV. The website says it's a 19", so wtf? If it's available in Slash310's area, it should be available in my area.

I've had it for roughly 1 month now, and no complaints so far. There DNS servers are a little sketchy, compared to time warners which where much faster it seems. However, for flat out speed this just can't be beat..

True. I was trying to simplify.

Currently each small neighborhood region is serviced by a single BPON, similar to a router. These BPON's service approx 32 users across the fibers in a fashion similar to a network switch (hence my LAN analogy).

The BPON's have a max limitation on the bandwidth that potentially may be exceeded if all users are active and downloading internet and HD video for TV FIOS.

Secondly (more importantly) Verizon has a single point source issue that limits their ability to send HD channels and Video on demand. I believe they knew this at the time, but adoption and HD channels may have both happened faster than expected.

They are trying to build additional regional source locations to avoid the single source problem, as well as planning on updating the current BPONs to GPONs to increase bandwidth across the fiber trunks to handle the additional HD channel and additional video on demand (hopefully HD). Also the GPONs can service up to 64 individual households. (and increase the internet broadband capability to 150MBPS or more) (that a freaking T3 or more to your house)

These new source locations are scheduled to on-line in Q4 this year.

Verizon is betting their company on FIOS. 15 billion a year investment (thats almost $3000 per house installation.) They are taking a long term view that they will be able to offer the most HD channels, in the highest HD quality, and the highest internet broadband service. All on the same lines.

I like their thinking. Their HD channels do offer the BEST QUALITY HD (all the other over compress the signals to the point that its barely 720p for the better quality signals)

My only issue: Their DVR software needs work. I had true TIVO before. FIOS TV DVR system has a long way to go.

My Comcrap area only offers the 6/1 an 8/2 tiers. Also, their Boost claims are such garbage. It's obvious they have the capacity to offer higher speeds, but since FIOS is not available in my area they are not pressured into doing so.

actually they dont have the capacity at the node level. since the whole of the node only gets around 40 megs, split to 100 houses, its kinda hard to get beyond what they are offering now...

Currently each small neighborhood region is serviced by a single BPON, similar to a router. These BPON's service approx 32 users across the fibers in a fashion similar to a network switch (hence my LAN analogy). I'm a telecom engineer, i know how verizons pon netowrk works.

The BPON's have a max limitation on the bandwidth that potentially may be exceeded if all users are active and downloading internet and HD video for TV FIOS.there are currnetly three active wavelength used on verizons pon network, the first is voice, the second internet(and television guide data) the third is QAM for television including HDTV. right now veriozn is only in the testing phases for there IPTV service, which is contigent apon the GPON network upgrade.

Secondly (more importantly) Verizon has a single point source issue that limits their ability to send HD channels and Video on demand. I believe they knew this at the time, but adoption and HD channels may have both happened faster than expected.actually there is two point sources for video services, one for each coast( chech out there 100 gig path trail they performed earlier in the year). there inablity to upgrade to more HDTV and VOD is the fact that they are running out of space on there QAM side of the network, yes i know, its an all fiber network but you are still limited by bandwidth constraints by the QAM network.

Also the GPONs can service up to 64 individual households. (and increase the internet broadband capability to 150MBPS or more) (that a freaking T3 or more to your house) verizon already stated they will not be using the 64 way split, there intentions are to stay consistent across the entire netowork.
just to let you know a t-3 is 43 megs, the speeds verizon is hoping to achieve is more like oc-3 to each house, which can be done now with bpon with an over subscription model.

well verizon is betting the company becuase there is no other place for them to go, besides all this build out is one big right down year over year.

were you watching a local channel airing the show in syndication or comedy central? because if it was comedy it was most likely a national spot that airs no matter where you are...just because you see a commercial for something on a national channel doesn't mean its for you specifically....hell lots of cable channels air sonic, jack in the box, etc... commercials all the time here in NY and neither of those places are anywhere close to NY....
