I'm in the process of upgrading for the first time in years. I fell out of touch with technology for a bit. I was going to get a new motherboard and video card.

Is the new 8800GT pci 2.0 card backward compatible with 1.0/1.1 slots?

I was going to buy this motherboard at newegg for 90$
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059) and pair it with an EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318) for 240$.

I have a tight budget and was looking to spend around 400$.
Any help or suggestions on a different setup is welcome and much appreciated.

PCI-E 2 is backwards compatible
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#PCI_Express_2.0

I made a simalar move just a week ago, 8800gt and a p35 based mobo. I went with MSI tho as it cost a bit less then simalar Gigabyte boards, (less features).
Just make sure the mobo supports the memory and fsb you want. I dont think I can go higher then 3.2ghz for OC as I have no support for faster ram, but this was my target speed so it was a good comprimize.

EDIT: For reference, stock speed is 2.66ghz, oc to 3.2 (400mhz fsb x8, memory set to 1:1 ratio, perfect for pc6400 ram, no special oc brand needed)

Oh yeah, do try to find a GT card that dont use the reference cooler, they run a bit hot with the single slot solution.

You can run those on the same cable, master and slave

Simalar problem here, I have 3 Ide HDDs and one Dvd rw, and only one ide channel.

I tried my old promise ultra100 ide controller but puter refused to boot with that card.

No matter, At next paycheck ill buy two new sata drives

hey quick jack but I can't get my friends cd and hd to be found in the bios when theyre on teh same IDE cable. What gives? Its either one or the other. Does it matter where they plug in on the cable?

try checking the jumper switches on your drives. pri and secondary or cable select.
