Since the announcement of Vista SP1 RTM, a lot of people on this board have installed SP1.

I thought it might be a good idea to make a feedback thread.

Please post what you think about SP1, what bugs/issues you had, have been fixed, or not fixed. Maybe something broken now?

Keep it civilized.

Oh and if you have any questions about installing SP1, or need more proof of RTM, please post/review this Thread:Announcing the RTM of Windows Vista SP1 (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=107402)

lets start, if you still have issues with gigabit speed, in SP1 they added NetworkThrottlingIndex registry value.

in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\M ultimedia\SystemProfile

look up NetworkThrottlingIndex

defualt value is 10, that means 10%. change the value to 100 decimal value.

that will set your network to 100%, no limiting.

Vista / SP1 RTM still has uPNP issues with routers.

While using a Netgear WGR-614 uPNP had to be disabled in the router otherwise the Vista PC would stop communicating with the network.

While using a Dlink 655 Extreme uPNP has to be enabled in the router otherwise the Vista PC would stop communicating with the network.

There is still a ton of uPNP traffic being sent out by Vista even with SP1 RTM installed. If you have issues with network speed, PCs dropping off, wireless PCs not getting IPs or being dropped, routers rebooting while a Vista PC is connected - try playing with uPNP settings in your router.

Gigabit network speeds are much better now with SP1.

Why would they throttle networking speed like that? CPU load?

Doom 3 fails to run patched to 1.31, this night IŽl try to uninstall and reinstall.

that is one possibility, not sure of excact reason.

well since this is a feedback thread, im not experiencing any issues with SP1 RTM :)

Installation went smoothly via the cmd hack. Took about a half hour maybe?
Installed 2 pre-updates then SP1 itself. After a few reboots, WALAH! All set and ready to go.

The first time i ran Mafia though it took FOREVER for it to load, after that, it was all good. A little odd.

I've been quiet on the subject, but I also installed SP1 the other day. Installation was without issue and I've noticed small improvements.

In particular the sound control panel is a little different now. The sliders are revamped and it installed new sound related drivers. I noticed by checking Device Manager and found them there.

Also estimated file copy times are now basically dead on accurate and the actual copy times are a little better.

Not one system crash either, but of course I rarely had any before.

The only problem I found is that Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 has some compatibility problems with SP1. It works, but it will give error messages when I access it. Apparently the Trend Micro firewall is not compatible, but since I still have the Windows firewall and hardware based router firewall I'm not concerned. I expect Trend Micro will patch the software in a few weeks and then all will be fine.

EDITED on 2/14/2008: The problem noted above has been addressed by Trend Micro. Per their wesite, "The Trend Micro Personal Firewall and Trend Micro Unauthorized Change Prevention service required driver will be released on February 14, 2008. Make sure that you have downloaded the latest component by this date to stop the notification from appearing."

To me there is no difference, it makes me wonder what the hell did they have in 500mb file.

Cause Microsoft is stupid. We use onboard lan chips which are crap just like onboard sound chip. If you want a good network card, you need separate network pci card with its own processor.

You may be dead on there, cause I have a netgear PCI gigabit card and changing that registry entry made my transfer rate drop from 55-60MB/sec to 40's. I bet that throttling entry is more relevent for onboard NICs.

I'm having some screen rendering issues with Server 08. Firefox's bookmarks turn black fairly frequently and the selection rectangle on the desktop lags like hell. But aero works.

Wait, Vista what?

I don't own Vista, but I think everyone here will agree with me....but here's my feedback....

This SP1 will be hacked, and the hack will be released 24 hours before official SP1.

MCE loads quicker to me and games are smoother and other little things are better but i stil can't access my shares from the network it says //inacessable. even though i have the drive shared. This has been going on before the SP1 though.

Vista doesn't like sharing drives for some reason even though i followed the steps to sharing drives.

The shared folders are on your vista machine? What are the machines that are trying to access the shares running? Also Vista? Vista seems pretty picky about sharing permissions. Have you changed the permissions so that everybody can access the files? Otherwise you'll have to he logged into the other computer with the same username to access the shared folders.

So far so good for me. Things seem a little snappier (Vista x64) with this SP1. Thanks for that info on networkthrottling nekrosoft, I'll give it a shot. My gigabit speeds are still kindof low...definately better than they were post SP1, but still not as good as XP.

I'll post updates if I find anything broken.

same here, I cannot get access to a shared folder on vista.

I have no problem accessing my shared folder on my Vista Media Center computer with other computers (including a Mac). I don't have them set to share with everyone, I just use my computer's username/password when remotely accessing the shared folders.

Installed on Vista 64, everything works fine except my Ideazon Fang. Zengine software crashes when I launch it. I have tried to uninstall it, reinstall older versions... nothing helps. There is a known issue with the zengine, when you plug the device into a different usb port than the first time you installed it, unexpected problems may occur. The SP1 installation may have something to do with USB devices redetection. If you have any ideas please share them.

If you used those slashes that is probably why. ;) Try \\server\sharename

I know that, i got it working but you have to be very discrete about sharing.

apply permissions to each share carefully or your ****ed.
