Welcome good users, to my Crysis dream screenshot thread. Here i post all dreamlike crysis screenshots i have come by in my time since crysis was released. I gave them a touch up in photoshop to make them look better. Nothing major, just some colorbalancing and stuff. Note, i didnt made all of these, just a few ones. However i edited them slightly to look better and rehosted them. Ingame settings various so dont ask me for my settings nor config. Also several of the pics is taken from custom maps witch can be found on www.crymod.com

Well enough of that, here's the pictures:

The Vegitation in that game still doesn't do much for me. Coupled with the overdone blur / HDR some of those just don't look very appealing.

The ones that I did like are the Roadside, Calm Sunset, and Mountainside. Roadside would be really sweet if you were playing a racing game, other than they need to get rid of the aliasing on the road sign. To me it looks a lot more natural than some of the other pics.

Thats very nice.

Most of them are very high HDR/Bright settings which make it very unreal like. Some of them are really nice where the HDR isn't set to Sun glasses mode.

Youre pathetic, the vegetation in Crysis is by far the best i've ever seen in a game so far. No other game is even close, well exept for oblivion, its a damn exception. You got serious issues if you disagree on that. Tell me any other game that does it better. The HDR is standard in many of the pictures and you still complain. Several of the pictures have custom TOD settings witch do change the HDR from standard yes and the HDR may be experianced as "overdone" However some (like myself) like it so, its all a matter of taste.

The roadside picture is NOT downsized in any way, therefor there is some aliasing yes. However i removed pretty much aliasing in that picture already and the roadsigns aswell. That youre complaining about the roadsigns have aliasing is just silly, its almost not noticable.

Wondering the same thing. I believe he doctored some of them up a bit...no?

If not, I would love to know the settings?!!?

More than likely not doctored. But unless you're happy with 5 frames per second, forget using these settings.

Also, I believe they're only available in the editor.

Veryhigh, & tweaked TOD, & 8x Multisampling plus 16 coverage samples aka "16xQ", & Supersampling Transparency Anti-Aliasing.

Combine this with a high resolution (CRT monitor are required) and you will get the about the same image quality as in those pictures. But please do notice, that you will not have by far, acceptable framerates. Expext 5 - 10 frames per second on a 8800GTX and average good cpu + 2gb of ram. Still it will look kickass.

Good luck!

You don't need a CRT for high resolutions... most 30" LCD's can do 2560x1600... that's higher than a CRTs 2048x1536 by a decent portion. Although the LCD would probably cost more than the CRT... while being quite a bit larger screen (viewable) though. It boils down to preference, I suppose.

Thats not what i am speaking about either. I speak about playing at a higher resolution than the monitor is made for, this doesn't include LCD monitors. For instance, how many ppl with 19" 4.3 CRT monitors run a resolution of 1920x1200 on desktop?

When running 3d apps theres a different story...
The higher the resolution, the more detailed the image on screen, and importantly the less jagged lines there will be, but the lower your performance. LCD and CRT monitors does not work the same way.

The screen on a CRT monitor is made up of lots of tiny Phosphors. It is these phosphors which glow briefly when struck by the beam from the electron gun inside the monitor and produce the image we see on a CRT screen. In Aperture Grill type CRT monitors, the phosphors are separated into fine red, green and blue vertical strips; in Shadow Mask type CRT monitors, the phosphors are separated into groups of tiny red, green and blue dots.

LCD monitors differ from CRT monitors in that they do not have an electron beam or lots of tiny phosphors lighting up. Instead they display images using a grid of fixed square or rectangular Liquid Crystal Cells which twist to allow varying degrees of light to pass through them. Just like a phosphor triad however, each LCD cell has a red, green and blue component, again to facilitate proper color reproduction for each pixel. Even though many LCD monitors are now approaching the point at which the distance between these cells - their 'Pixel Pitch' - is similar to the Dot Pitch of a CRT, because of the way LCDs work and their fixed cell composition, LCD monitors can only provide optimal image quality at their maximum supported resolution, otherwise known as the Native Resolution. At other resolutions, the image can appear more blurry and exhibit glitches.

:wtf:

Dot pitch and "Pixel Pitch" don't directly effect the resolution. Now, if you mean most 19" CRTs support a higher resolution than 19" LCDs, I'll agree there. I have a 19" Viewsonic CRT that's just sitting that supports 1920x1440- quite a bit higher res than my current monitor's 1680x1050. For ever inch of viewable area the CRTs will have a bit higher resolution, no doubt. If that is what you're referring to, then I do agree.

All I was originally saying is that, to my knowledge, there isn't a single CRT monitor capable of anything above 2048x1536, which isn't quite as high a resolution as an LCD's 2560x1600. Granted, the CRT would cost quite a bit less and not have quite as large a viewable area, thus further enhancing the "sharpness" of the image... but as far as which solution does offer the highest resolution alone, that would still be LCDs. That was my point.

Anyhow, those shots do look fantastic! Mind if I ask what map they're from?

Looking good bro! I notice you used photoshop to reduce the absurd amounts of yellow/orange and HDR bloom in this one. This map made my eyes fatigued.

Nanosuitguy,

Are you a photographer? If you're not then you should be because that's obviously where you heart is.

Nice shots but I can't help but think you could make even nicer shots with a real camera ;)

FastRedPonyCar@ Hehe thanks. Well I didnt change anything in that picture actually ;) Sure as hell it looks nice, especially the water... Think the map is called "Rock" aint 100% sure.

Redeemed@ I understand what you say. Thing is, with a CRT it doesn't have to be bigger and bigger the higher resolution you go. If u want 1920x1200 then u have to buy a 24" widescreen LCD. Hell you can do 1920x1200 on a 17" CRT monitor it doesnt even have to be widescreen or big at all. Still in the game the pixels and the scene and all will be compressed to fit. And as u know, when stuff gets smaller they get more detailed, as long as the picture itself doesnt change in size, just the pixels somehow. Therefor u get lots of more details and antialiasing when u increase the res on a CRT.

About the pictures... Man i cant really tell witch map everyone is from, they are taken from several pics and i only took a few of them myself. But take a look over at www.crymod.com and you will find them. Some of the custom maps used for these pics are:

Country path
Savanna2jungle
Crashed
Snipehill
Rock

But there are also many taken from the original crysis maps, the custom TOD (time of day) settings lure the eye pretty much aswell so the lighting is important. :P

MowTin@ No i am not a photographer, some ppl think so but i only took a few of all those i posted. But i have a good feeling for images and i got some skills in photoshop So the pictures i choose is chosen with care, not just any picture gets in my list ;)

OH, and meanwhyle i am here posting, heres a new one never posted before, its very atmospheric:
