View Full Version : What to upgrade?
Just wondering where I should go to upgrade next? I don't have a lot of luck over clocking. I don't even bother anymore. Was thinking maybe a new cpu to get higher speed there. Would a e8400 be a cost effective step up? Maybe getting another gtx and a sli board but that would be very expensive. See my sig for specs
If you typically just use your pc for gaming, I would go for the E8400, but if you also do a lot of multimedia stuff on you pc I would wait for the Q9450, which should be here in a month. But if you can't wait that long, the E8400 is a great deal.

your system looks fine as it is now, but if you do feel you need an upgrade, try the E8400, and the 3870 x2 combo. i personally don't see the need for sli boards/cards as a single $400-500 card can do more than enough. if your friend scores 1000 more points in 3dmark, that only a few fps more in actual games that he's getting.
it also depends on how "future-proof" you want your computer to be. in this case, try a ***ddr3*** board, with some nice ****ddr3 ram****.
in this case, try a gddr3 board, with some nice gddr3 ram.
First of all gddr3 (graphics double data rate), is obviously meant for video cards hence the g. So your statement makes no sense what so ever... But if you menat to say ddr3, thats a really bad idea, even if the price wasn't so high, it still has no real performance advantages over ddr2. You shouldn't even consider getting ddr3 memory until later this year(Q4), they might be hitting 1600 by then, and the prices should start to decline.
Sorry if it seems like sim bashing you, but try to understand a concept fully before you give others advice:thumbsup:

i meant ddr3, you knew that...
and ddr3 ram is much faster then ddr2, or atleast has more potential. ddr3 1800? that is very fast...
Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'm gonna hold off until the next gen cards come out and upgrade my cpu then. Everything(except Crysis which I put on the shelf until I can run it better) runs fine now. CoD4, Team Fortress2, Bioshock all run very nice.
