Well I have been thinking about upgrading here in the next few weeks to a new CPU and have had my eye on 2 but don’t know which one to pick.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

I just want to know if the Quad core $50 more will give me more of a performance increase than if I were to go to the E8400 which is newer and everyone wanting it?

O yeah I have a Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 right now

gaming vs encoding is the main thing but seriously ,who cares about a few minutes difference (or seconds with PhotoShop).

quad all the way. more future proof, better overall preformance, and if you get a G0 you can overclock it like no one's business

short term investment = faster dual core
long term investment = slower quad core
