My first PC was a commodore 64 with a tape drive. No disk drives were available at that time. I think that was around 1980.

It was more fun back then to try to create your own simple games coded in BASIC than to play the crap that was available when the machine first came out.

Later of course the C64 became known for being a gaming machine.

Wing Commander 1 was freaking awesome, but I enjoyed Wing Commander 3 (and 4? I forget) as well. In fact, I'd be OK with a new good Wing Commander, even if it was only as good as 3.

My first computer / gaming device was a TI994a. I did eventually get a tape drive for it, had no disk drive for it at all. Coding in BASIC could be such a pain, you'd put in 1000 lines only to get 'error-syntax' or somesuch and you'd have to scan through every single line for the single typo you made, and you'd probably never find it.

In ~1994 I really didn't understand PCs very much, and I got a Matrox MGA graphics card which was like $300, and it was used to accelerate 3d graphics in stuff like autocad, but I didn't know that. I thought that it would speed up Doom. It was an especially bad card for bandwidth, so even on a decent CPU Doom ran worse than my friend's computer which had a weaker CPU. It had something like ~2000k/sec bandwidth. One day I actually resolved a IRQ conflict with my SB16 and the videocard and got an extra ~1000k/sec, which was awesome.

3dfx was later than 1993, but I think it should be OK to talk about those days too.

?? I had a Vic-20 first. Then a Commie 64. I loved that thing. But I'm a bit confused, I remember having a 1541 Disk Drive. Then they came out with a 1571 Disk Drive if IIRC...Anyway, I was all over BBS's on my 64 with my blazing 300 Baud modem...When 1200 and 2400 baud came out, I was in heaven...LOL

Yeh the disk drives came out a few years later. Maybe it was an availability thing here in Australia.

I got one when they came out.

3dfx released its first voodoo in late 95 early 96 when win95 came out.

I had one of those first voodoo's and was quite new to what i had even though i was using a mystique.

i had alot of systems from 80's into the 90's but i was most excited about the first 3d game that had GL textures.

I still have one Voodoo 1 and a matching pair of Voodoo 2 for SLI (and not the whimpy new SLI).

Pretty crazy what they did. I should fire this stuff back up. I wonder whether DRI has drivers that work with the non-2D 3D cards.

First comp was 8088/10Mhz "Turbo" with 640K RAM and an EGA card. 20MB Seagate MFM hard disc drive. Made that funny "swoosh" noise when it accessed. :)

Favorite old school games from back in the day were the original Wing Commander and StarFlight.

Upload/download ratios ftl.

I use to connect to one BBS that had 5 modems/lines. Chatting real time with people. It was like a mini internet.

1995 - Teh Sega SaturnZ, one of my all-time favorite console systems, because it had tons and tons of exclusives that most people never bothered to play.

Burning Rangers, Nights into dreams, Sonic 3d, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, one of the best rpg's ever, imported grandia ....ah yes, good times.
