Well some will finally get there wish. For the past year and half its like everyone wanted AMD and ATI to rollover and die.:thumbdwn:

It was? It seemed to me that everyone was hoping that AMD would compete again to keep the GPU race going with lower prices and better performance.

The only company that would buy AMD/ATI is IBM. That is all.

Did anyone read that article, this would be bad period. According to the article the x86 license AMD has is non-transferable which means that NVIDIA wold loose the ability to make processors, so then that mean one video card company, NVIDIA and one chip maker, Intel. This is bad for everyone all around, I hope it doesn't happen and I hope the FTC shoots it down if they try.

They would lose the license that AMD has, but I'm sure NVIDIA can apply for one themselves if they do go that route. If there are serious talks NVIDIA can probably get their own license for x86 by the time they finalized the deal.

Yeah I reread another article and it seems the license would transfer so I guess they could stay in the x86 market. Honestly I don't think NVIDIA will buy AMD/ATI I just don't think it will happen.

First don't get to excited, nothings happened yet. Second, do you really want a world with one company selling high end video cards? Honestly why does anyone see this as a good idea, when was the last time Intel had a high end graphics product? If NVIDIA buy AMD/ATI we loose big time, monopolies are bad.

I really don't see this happening and if the FTC steps in at all it will be to stop the deal all together. They won't approve it because it makes NVIDIA a monopoly one way or another. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this is just a stupid rumor by some nut job analyst because I really don't see any good coming from a merger of this kind.

Intel is goi ng to be getting in the high end gpu market so...

if this happens 'me say bye bye' to gaming all together, and stick with some 3-5 year MMO never buy a damn game ever.

It might make the GPU market suck, but it could really shake up the CPU market.

Humm , not is AMD 3 times more great than Nvidia ?

Let's not forget about the Louisiana purchase! I heard Thomas Jefferson talking about it the other day! I reckon this'll be good!

zap, you fail. :p

i hope nvidia's not gonna buy amd/ati out. i rather have nvidia focus on gpu only. if nvidia buys amd/ati out, do you think we'll see new ati card afterward?

Nope, it would pretty much kill the GPU market unless Intel stepped up.

intel would step in. Intel is going to be entering the high end gpu market soon. Not tommorow soon but soon. As nvidia is slowly but surely encroaching on the cpu market.

lol

I know a couple fanboys who will be swearing off PC gaming and PCs in general because they hate Intel and NVidia. :p

That's sad. I buy the best price vs performance gear I can get my hands on. I don't care who's label is slapped on it.

I believe that the current x86 licensing agreement between AMD-intel is transferable only if AMD is acquired by an American company. That basically leaves IBM and nvidia as prime contenders for an AMD buyout.

I can't see the logic behind nvidia acquiring AMD. Yes, nvidia's market cap is nearly 2.5 times that of AMD now, but AMD also has $5 billion in debt.

Also, nvidia would absolutely cannibalize what was formerly known as ATI. nvidia has no use for 2 GPU divisions, and they certainly have no use for a competitor's tech that they themselves feel is inferior.

Buying out AMD would ensure that they remove their only viable competitor from the market (INTC doesn't count), which would violate anti-trust laws. This fact alone leads me to believe that such a merger is highly unlikely to impossible.

Disclaimer- I'm a shareholder of both AMD and NVDA. I don't want this to happen.

I'm not so sure that the executives at Nvidia have always thought their technology was superior. I've listened to a conference call where Mr. Huang stated he has dealt with a large number of competitors that are: larger, smaller, had inferior technology, had superior technology, and yet we are still here.
