AMD... King of the Rumor of False Hopes.
You really should not label ATI as AMD . . .they really have functional separation in the areas that matter.
I hope both GPU companies do well and have successful products as that fosters competition and we (the customers) win. Both companies have some really great people (just got back from PDXLAN . . .had some very nice dealings with both companies as well as Intel, Palit, Tagan, even got to meet a couple nice dudes from Crucial and made a good connection for my future projects).
ATI and Nvidia are both coming out with some interesting offerings . . .

I am trying to figure out how to get my five 8800 GTXs and two ATI X2s to run on one board ;)

zOMG!!! tHAT iS tEH rUMOURED oSTERICH sLI fIRE!!! zOMG! zOMG! zOMG!!!
BTW... how are you getting all this killer hardware? Is it for mods that you are doing? That'd make sense, as that'd be advertisement for these companies.
This all feels like a big deja vu . Last time it all started also with new promising GDDR4 , 512 bit ringbus technology ,...... Which all ended up in a big disaster with delays, bad real world applications results and at the end spanking by NVIDIA .With the last one focussing more on getting the best performance on the market instead absolutely wanting the latest new hypes in there cards.
Remember
-Shader 2c(ati) vs Shader 3.0(Nvidia)
If i remember correctly it was during the 9800-x800 period where nvdia marketing a lot about there shader 3.0( the hot thing but in mean time ATI got decend results).
For some reason ATI has changed into just trying to slap everything new on there card and hope it sells. I don't know a lot about marketing but I know there are many people out there that would buy just to see 10.1 instead of dx10, gddr4 vs gddr3. But I wonder if this is the best thing to do for a long period of time.
PS only really good things to come out of ATI lately : there chipsets and offloading playback. Bought making me so sad cause the first one doesnt have a decend processor to put in and the second one beeing mostly ignored.

I always want ATI to do good, but they always seem to come up short.
I long for the old school 9800 Pro days. :drool:

2gpus*480SPs*2ops*1050Mhz = 2 TFlops :drooling:
Prolly this new chip will fix all the architectural flaws from the R600. :)
From the SP count, it's still using the same vector superscalar shader architecture.
If those specs are true, there are a few things the next Nvidia cards can do to match the theoretical FLOPs performance.
9800gtx?? = 192 SPs x 3 (FLOPS/SP) x 2000 mhz == 1176 Gflops (1.17 Tflops)
9800gts?? = 160 SPs x 3 (FLOPS/SP) x 1800 mhz == 864 Gflops
Assuming the missing MULL is finally found in the next iteration of the architecture. It'll be an interesting Summer once both cards are on the table.

TheBigOne guy has 2 of the 3870 x2's and he says Crysis runs totally maxed out in all its glory with 16XQ AA and he says it runs smooth.
We Nvidia guys need a prayer.

R700 is going to use a diffrent "dual GPU" architecture from R680 one new thing is "Mem share" Will allow both GPUs to access the same memory.
It also says the details that were rumored are fake.

Read that new today as well. A shared memory pool would be great! That's still one of the drawbacks of todays multi-GPU technologies. Good to see at least AMD is working on this.
