I never thought I'd say this, but Rage3D has turned down a dark and deceptive road, denying their readers accurate information about ATi's competing products.
Here's what happened:
While reading Rage "General ATi Radeon Discussion" forum this morning, I found the following thread:

User "cvearl" (in general a good guy and valuable poster) had made an error with his statement:
This is good but needs to settle into $199 to answer recent price cuts on the 8800GT which has settled into the $239 price point.
I thought, "That's not right", looked on the vendor he referenced (newegg) and saw there are three 512MB 8800GTs available for between $209.99 and $219.99 AMIR, and that all the prices began before cvearl made his posts. (as evidenced by the rebate dates)
So I posted this, prices only, no comment as to which card was better, only the corrected pricing.
Here's where it gets interesting.
Apparently Rage3D staff do not want their readers to know 8800GTs are available for the same price as HD3870s, they deleted my post as "Off Topic".
Think about that a moment. In a post that directly compares the lowest prices of HD3870s to the middle range prices of 8800GTs, Rage3D does not want you to know there are 8800GTs priced the same.
I can understand why if you're ATi, but not Rage3d.
Furthermore, I asked them their reasoning for this decision hours ago, and received no reply.
When a forum staff actively cultivates disinformation, the community as a whiole suffers. A Rage3D member might as well make AMD.com the target of their Rage3d shortcut if this is their new direction.
I was shocked and saddened, and regret having to bring this information to the online community.:(

Also, anyone wanting to buy a card is obviously gonna check up on prices. All this is gonna do is make them (Rage3D) look stupid

There's one on there for $199.99 right now. It's a Gigabyte w/ an aftermarket fan.
What's funny, though, is that 20/24 of 8800GTs in stock on newegg right now are listed at $239.99 or above.. exactly what this "cvearl" guy was claiming in the first place. That sounds like a "settled pricepoint" to me.
Now maybe it shouldn't have been said that the 3870 was much cheaper, because from what I see it goes for about the same. A few under 220 and the rest upwards of 230-240. But again, that's what the competition does: they bad-mouth each other. Even your presidential candidates are doing this, so it shouldn't be a surprise if some editors on graphics websites resort to the same tactics.

Um. I meant not including those few MiR ones like the MSI model ($209 after $20 MIR). eVGA $229 after $10 MiR, XFX is $219 after $20 MiR and the rest seem to average around $239 - $259. I hate MiR's as I have had mixed results getting them back or waiting for them anyway. But sure. Lets average it out to $229 if we give MiR's the benefit of the doubt. There is a gaggle of $259 and up as well. But for the most part I still thinik $239 is the sweet spot. Not that it really matters.
It's actually more my fault for saying 8800GT in the posting. Guess I should edit that out. I still think that at $199, the 3870 would continue to be an equal value. But at the current $$$ it is about $20 off. But so what. If people prefer one brand over the other, that $20 or so value wont really matter as well.
But I think you are a bit over-worried about the whole thing.

But it's looking as though pricing is finally dropping on 3870. Here's Bestbuy at $214. That's more like it. I hope they all follow suit.

UPDATE:
I've been told by the moderator who deleted the post that it "upset other members and threatened to derail the thread".
How can the correct price of hardware "upset" anyone????
As it stands, I don't think any information seen on Rage3d forums can be taken as accurate, because they clearly have an agenda to suppress accurate information about non ATi products.

& lets face it : Rage3D is an ATi fansite , Nvnews is an Nvidia fansite. i dont see the need to exaggerate on such issues. a small note about the inaccurate info should be enough.

I once expressed my opinion on what was designed better on GeForce/ForceWare (i even owned Radeon 9600 Pro at that time). Of course i immediatelly got warning from moderator and of course erased post. Then i send all of them to hell and they banned me.
Good, coz i had no intention to return to that stinkin forum.
NVNews and Guru3D ftw, at least you can express yourself whatever you want and no one will bother you with stupid stuff like idiots at Rage3D.

I never have either, and cvearl even changed his post for the sake of accuracy.
I'm not trying to "stir anything up between sites" - I just can't remember ever having forum staff delete my post which was clearly within TOS, accurate, and in no way inflammatory because some guys that want to pimp a brand ask for it.
When things have fallen to that level, the world needs to know and then all that will be left there is:
