This Dual Socket Extreme Desktop Platform combines the same two 3.2GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9775 processors and Intel Desktop Board D5400XS motherboard that we tested in our review. Each chip is launching with a suggested price of $1,499, while the motherboard is priced at $649. That's much more expensive than even the dual-socket motherboard that came out with AMD's Quad FX platform, although Intel's mobo is currently the only offering we know of to combine support for both AMD CrossFire and Nvidia SLI multi-GPU configurations.

I don't think you need that specific CPU... I hope not, Was thinking about building a rig using that mobo. ;)

You has monies? The board is price-prohibitive for me. :(

I do now, Been saving since I moved and fixed my **** up. Depends if my future financial decisions pull through.

What is the cheapest chip you can put on that thing? It's not socket 775 is it?

02-19-08, 11:56 PM
I thought it was socket 775...

Damit, Its 771 with 775 mount fittings.

$650 for a ****ing motherboard?! Good Alaa, **** that!!

02-20-08, 12:05 AM
Welcome to my ass, SkullFail piece of ****! LOL

[for nVJoe who is sleeping soundly now that it's after 7:30pm on the West Coast]

Wow expensive, I think I'll hold off on this

"JAKUP! Where are you? How does it run with those procs and that board...I KNOW YOU HAVE ONE..."

02-20-08, 12:41 AM
Wow. And people mocked AMD for their Quad-FX design. Now I'm gonna' wait for Tygerboner to come in here and sing Intel's praise.

Seems like they´re taking a workstation thing and putting it in the entusiast segment, while pricing it as a workstation platform..
So.. its a workstation platform.. for enthusiasts.. but for workstations.. enthusiastic workstation?

$650 for a motherboard :scarey: holy ****!

I think I'll have to pass on that.

02-20-08, 08:00 AM
Why is anyone surprised? It's an extreme enthusiast class motherboard with very limited production numbers. Also, you can run SLI without an nForce chipset, which I'm sure is a plus for many. ;)

02-20-08, 08:18 AM
I might see if any better looking revisions of the board come out before I make a purchace.

02-20-08, 08:30 AM
I thinks it's a pretty hot setup. If they put the ability to run 4 GPU's, that is 4 cards, and perhaps change the RAM requirements this would be a great setup for the extreme user.

Can it all be used to full potitional atm, not for gaming, but I wager it will before to long.

What we have been looking at are pre producton models and I can only assume the board will change some what before it is actually released.

This board is a failure, but only because of the RAM it takes. no non certified un buffered DDR2/3 for this board. have fun OCing on a board that uses POS ram...

02-20-08, 09:15 AM
It is far from a failure, it is a test board and not even released yet.

02-20-08, 10:05 AM
Skulltrail is for game developers not for game players. I hope it will see a failure in the game players community not the game developers community.

02-20-08, 10:13 AM
They ran benchmarks on the board a while back and despite having all that **** on the board, it still had an

Hardly an epic fail...

For a test board I think it is doing very well with people who know how to test and not the ones who go... well we only had a few hours or a day to test this.

There people around here with plenty of money for it with extreme cores to fit.

The BonOne Guy who just posted here 2 months ago will probably get one seeing he is has of cash to burn and he has one extreme just getting another one would be like a can of soda for him.

I wouldn't mind putting one of those together but wouldn't know what to do with it.

02-20-08, 12:27 PM
LOL @ Jolle's post... enthusiastic workstation.

I'm not saying the hardware is fail... it's a sweet setup if you need it... but no one needs it, and few can afford it. At least from the gaming perspective.

You know, I was reading the thread title and I got to thinking- wouldn't it just suck if your skull suddenly failed? Think about it: you're walking along, minding your own business- and suddenly your skull BSODs, just straight up fails! Imagine how aweful that'd be... *drifts off into thought*
