View Full Version : Unoficial 790i launch date
Finally those who wish to play rush n roulette with your nvidia chipsets can also have ddr3 and 1600fsb and pennryn 45nm support.
A new old chipset
DDR3 supporting Nforce 790i will launch on March 11th. This looks to be a simultaneous launch to follow the launch of 9800GX2, but Nvidia has pushed this launch already a few times.
This is basically a fixed 680i chipset that can support Quad core 45nm Penryn and DDR3 memory. We just got goosebumps. This chipset supports tri SLI and it can support FSB 1600. It is Nvidia’s high end chipset and this is what Drew’s boys want to base their marketing on.
There will also be a Nforce 790i Ultra.

I will be getting one as long as it is still compatable with me E6600.
Part of my staged upgrade path.

Is DDR3 worth getting yet for future proofing? :confused:

Performance gains are minimal, and the cost is way to high. I would wait until some decent performing 2x2gb kits. They need to hit higher clocks, above 2000mhz

Will DDR2 ram still work on that board?
Will DDR2 ram still work on that board?
No.
780i = DDR2
790i = DDR3

Im sure Alienware will be supplying this board on their new high end systems within the month!! :captnkill:
With that motherboard 4gb of 2+2 DDR3 Ram, Intel Quad core based processor, tri sli 9 series cards, 1.2kw psu, water cooling, along with a bunch of other #%$ it will be around $12K!!!! Gotta love (Hate in my book) alienware!!!:D

Eh... SLI is great and all but for the price of that board, you could probably have a smokin fast intel board and a single 8800ultra that would probably spit out relatively similar game benchmark numbers at the average joe gamer's resolution.
Basicially, what I'm getting at is that I seriously doubt that one of these, the latest and greatest ram and cpu and a trio of ultras probably won't yield much better frame rates in Crysis...which is the only real benchmark I consider a good gauge of a system's gaming prowess.
Call me crazy but at this point, it seems like it's the only tangible thing we actually care about besides 3D mark that can truly separate the men from the boys.

I feel the same way. I am sick and tires of stupid 3dmark benchmarks, peopleshould use crysis with all IN GAME settings turned up(not using nhancer or anything like that). This should be the standard benchmark, noit some synthetic bull **** from futuremark.
