I have my 9650 at 4.2Ghz. I know I can get more just was waiting untell I have everything setup.
I'm running mine at 3.6 (400x9) now. 1.28V vcore idle and 1.23V load. 4.0 (400x10)requires 1.40+ vcore (max vcore is 1.3625V according to Intel) in BIOS. Temps are good but I'm worried about the high vcore so I dropped it to 3.6. Didn't notice any performance difference in games running at 4.0 and 3.6.
It takes 1.42 to hit 4GHz, what are safe load temps for this CPU? I think the 780i runs a little hot.

64.5C according to Intel. That is the Tcase temperature btw, not actual core temps.
Yeah, the 780i runs hot, active cooling on the north bridge is recommended.
My temps seem a little high compared to others, I might try the MSI board http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2771745&postcount=17, my power led is still not working after three boards :(

4GHz here as well with 1.40V set in BIOS and 1.37V under load.

Hows your temps??

Idle around 33-35C. Games 45-55C and movie encoding/converting is 55-65C.
I'm happy with those values on air cooling ;)
Enjoy your new CPU Lee ;)

Wow! That's some INCREASE under load!

Enjoy your new CPU Lee ;)Thanks, I think I'm still gonna try the MSI 780i and see if it cools Things down a little ;)
What board are you using with the Yorkfield, lee? CPU-Z 1.43/1.44 can't read my vcore right. It reads it way too low. BTW, if you're using a reference 780i board, I heard a BIOS update fixes the power LED problem.

I have the Evga 780i, the vcore is 1.40 in the bios. I have the latest bios P03. I like the layout of the MSI:D but the colors suck:( I don't think this board has been reviewed yet.

hehe sorry, 1.37V under load of course ;) Thanks for pointing that out.
Lee, what about the Asus Striker II Formula? I don't like MSI at all.

Lee, what about the Asus Striker II Formula? I don't like MSI at all.I have had some bad experiences with Asus, so Im gonna give MSI a shot :D I know its ugly but you wont see the god awful colors with all my hardware crammed in (lee63)
http://i31.tinypic.com/66j0jc.jpg Fast benchie. :)
I cant read the temps with Coretemp. It gives me 50C idle which I don't believe. ASUS Probe says 26 idle. Load mid 50's @ 4GHz 1,4V. Coretemp says load 67C @ 4GHz. Remounted my cooler so I think its or the BIOS or the software that has the temps wrong. I'll just stick to 3875MHz 1,325V for a while till a good tool will come out.

My Q6600 was 53C stressed @ 3,4GHz, so the cooler is good imho... I think coretemp is wrong so i''l stick to the CPU temps that Probe give me. Seems most accurate to me.

Very nice! :D
I think your temps are normal. There is a 15C between Tcase and Tjunction temps for dual cores. I use Everest which shows both Tcase and Tjunction temps in one app. That said however, the digital sensors on the 45nm chips are wacky. It's a known issue.
I'm glad the Sensors on my QX9650 are A-OK. :D Alle cores stressed 57C @ 4GHz @ 1,4375V in BIOS. (1,35V in Everest and CPU-Z) :)
I personally have never had any problems with MSI boards and I can deal with the color scheme on everything but the memory slots, those things are butt ugly :thumbdwn:
Ok mine Qx9650 @ 4,2Ghz (12x350) stable rock solid..
But temps are to high for my tastes.. 49c iddle and 75C full load..
at 4.0ghz// is 48C iddle and 70C full load.
it looks like every 200mhz.. there are 5 degrees diference you gain
or lose at full load.
Can anyone recommend a really good water cooler for my yorkfield?
something not too expensive ,but of good quality . There are good reviews about swiftech water coolers..

any one with experience?
I just installed the Xeon X3350 and man I have to do some reading, this thing is a pain in the ass to OC as of now. I could not get it to 450 FSB. I just hate running the NB beyond 1.5v. I am sure I will find an answer I just need to spend a day reading. :( I have this feeling its the bios due to its infancy.
