I've installed windows on a PC. But during installation in didn't ask for network configuration. Oh well. But then I took the harddrive out and plugged it into another computer with exactly the same components. But it doesn't want to pick up the intergrated network card. I use the same driver CD with the network card's driver as always but it doesn't install it. I tried scanning for hardware changes numerous times.

And the network card isn't faulty. If I plug in another HDD into that computer it works just fine. As a matter of fact. I'm posting through that network device right now.

What must I do? Please!

Why did you take the HDD out in the first place? Even though the hardware is the same type, every component is always going to be different. No two components are exactly the same, aka maybe a different model number or something in the BIOS ROM.

It's not suppose to be an issue. I've done this exact same thing numerous times before on my class' computers. But this has bever happened before.

The reason why I'm doing this is a long story.

HDD#1 (yesterday) - Linux partition (NIC works fine), Windows partition (NIC works fine)
HDD#1 still (today after fresh installation - Linux part. (NIC works fine), Windows (NIC doesn't get picked up)

HDD#2 (same model and type) software hasn't been changed lately - Windows (NIC worked before; still works now)

Maybe just a corrupt installation? I'm guessing that you just installed it once and you had this problem?

Hmmm maybe you really dont understand Linux. :captnkill:

That's another story actually. The NIC in linux works fine. But if I restart it doesn't work anymore. I have to shut down, unplug and turn on again before I get the networking to work again.

Make sure the HDD is set up the same way in Bios as it was when it was partitioned/formated? "Something could be corrupted as six_storm said". Are you using NTFS?

Are you sure the networking is enabled in the bios? You could try clearing the bios and resetting all the options. What mobo/HDD?

That it works in Linux until the restart is certainly strange. When I have several identical systems I use 1 installation image for all of them, that makes it easier to fix a corrupted system install. I just restore. The only variations are motherboard revisions and Bios revisions.
