So what all things do I need to turn off to improve performance. Sidebar, Aero, Indexing, what else???

wallpaper, start bar, monitor.
::D:
I just turn the sidebar off and leave the rest running. Indexing in Vista REALLY doesn't hog resources as much as XP. It'll just give your HDD a workout while idle (until it has an uptodate index). Aero is fine too. It turns off when running fullscreen 3D apps.

I like sidebar. :(
I think in windows 7 they should include 2 sidebars. We can never have enough frickin' clocks to look at.

Sidebar - might be useful, if you install right gadgets (RSS reader, notes, calculator, etc.) and have a huge widescreen LCD
Aero - why disable it? If your computer is not from 2001, keep it on
Indexing - what?! Probably the most useful Vista feature is integrated search anywhere. It saves plenty of time, especially when you have 200k + files.. Learn how to use it, and it will make you much more productive.

@methimpikehoses - Logitech G15 w/ Everest is very useful for that. Great thing is you see all that stuff even when having fulscreenn app running (like a game).

Vista is a much never move now.
I think you will enjoy the new stuff and with SP1, you will find most of the stuff that had issues are taken care of.
Do i still have to pay for everest to use the temp gadget?

Try turning down the bass on your speakers. I got me a 20% improvement that way.
