Sleep Mode in Vista is one of the best improvements over Hibernation in XP. Completely turns off your system and wakes up very very fast. I never shut down any more, no reason to.

XP worked the same if you turned on S3 (suspend to RAM) suspend in the bios and used sleep instead of Hibernation. Problem is if your PC lost power the resume would fail and you'd have to cold boot.
Vista does it better, it suspends to RAM as well as HDD, so you are back one way or another.

I have a problem with my sleep mode, Every time i use it It kills my connection and i have to restart it after i "awake" the system. To get my connection working again
So I'm not able to use sleep mode.
What exactly should the computer do when I click the orange power icon in the start menu?
I never use it because my computer screen goes blank, then the login screen appears and sits there forever. I thought it was supposed to put the PC in some low power mode or save RAM to disk or something.
I use S3 sleep mode now that my motherboard supports it.
