I have $460 to spend on a graphics card (or two) in SLI.

Nvidia ones please. eVGA ones please.

Recommend me ones to get. should I get 2x9600gt's?

8800GTs are your best bet. I'm guessing you sold your 8800GTS640 or 320 models.

Why not a 9600gt? (just asking)

Because the 8800GT is overall a faster card

I would recommend the 8800GTs as well, the 2 I have are under $200 each at newegg after rebate and come with the better cooler

Do you think newer drivers would fix the gap between 8800gt and 9600gt making the 9600 better in the future? (I'm also taking into consideration resale value too).

Edit: and do you think I should wait till a 9800GTX or GX2 comes out?

In my opinion even new drivers won't make 9600 better than 8800GT

24'' HP w2408h (1920x1200).

Solid CPU? I'm guessing that means cool. It's @ 2.76ghz load temps 45c (amazing right?) Zalman 9700

Edit: in the mean time I'm stuck with a measly X300/X550 Radeon (yes... sad.... it's the only thing I had laying around).

yea, 8800GTS 512MB cards are the best buy IMO. 128SP and the dual slot cooler makes it a better choice than the 8800GT.

According to this bench @1920x1200 1x 1gb 8800gt is nice, Then wait for a better card to be released.
