Understanding your 3DMark06?

So I havent oc'd in a while and thought i would oc the gpu a bit. So I ran 3DMark06 and got a decent score of 12,769. Then I realized that the best 3Dmark06 scores were over 30k!! So we have our resident overclocking pro jAkUp and with his -40c processor and with 3 ultra's he only pulls 21.5k explain please!

OC your proc. I think had jAkUp clocked his proc over 5.7ghz, and use XP to bench 3DMark 06 instead of Vista, he would have gotten close to 30K too.

I have a copy of xp 64 bit edition. Will my benchmark score be much better so the bios will recognize the 3gb of ram?

Also how much BIGGEr of a difference is it between DDR2 and DDR3 is the jump of price cost effective?

Are the guys that are hitting over 30K on LN2, cascades or DI ?

It's hard to say from just looking at a number. A lot of those guys have a great deal of knowledge about OCing and do many things to get high scores, like motherboard mods and tweaking the BIOS settings like memory timings and other things.

I am not sure but I have not seen how jAkUp achieved his score but go over to http://www.xtremesystems.org and take a look how some of those guys get the high scores. There is much more than changing the CPU multiplier and upping the FSB.

I had huge problems with BlackOPS beta bios and Crossfire. Max fsb was 405.
Cards run fine and overcloking was as easy as before.

These runs were done in hurry, cause I have only this night left to bench. I have another things to do in next few weeks.

No pictures of setup, cause my camera is still away.

Setup:

Foxconn BlackOPS (bios 7)
QX9650 @ 1.96V
G.Skill DDR3 (2.3V)
2x 3870 X2 (1. unmodded and 2. modded) (918MHz/1070MHz all tests)
Thermaltake TT 1200W
PCI-E @ 120MHz
Max fsb 405MHz.


Operating system: Win Vista 32-bit

1.96Vcore? LOL 5.7Ghz, see I didn't lie. CPU clock affects the score a lot more than GPU clocks.

yes they do but K|ngp|n also pushes his ultras over a 1Ghz core speed, its a total package


IMHO these highest score are useless, I think that Futuremark needs to make a 24/48 hour stable section thus eliminating these LN2 systems. If you can't actually play on the system what is the point?

Probably 100+ because to get a 30K 3dmark06 score your running 1280 x 1024 no AA or AF.

It is 100+ FPS. If I'm not mistaking, 13k average's around 30-40fps on the first test, 30fps in the forrest, 40fps on the balloon one, and 60ish in deep freeze. You'd have to at least double those current FPS figures to get 30k.

Yea but Crysis doesn't scale that well either, so I'd guess it would be 100+ at medium settings, but high and very high will probably tank.
