I am using 4019 drives succesfully. Since the two new driver releases I have not been able to get X to work with them.
After installing the new drivers X starst with the splash NVidia splash screen. Then, instead of getting my login or desktop, the screen is filled with junk/gargabe/mangled graphics display. The mouse pointer is visible and functions correctly, but that is it.
Has anywone solved this problem? If you need more info let me know, and I will reinstall the new drivers and get some logs. I was hoping that there is an obvious fix for this. The NVidia drivers have always worked for me, and this is the first time something has gone wrong.
Thanks
4019? I don't remember that one ... existing even. ;)
Can we get some system specs from you? And which driver are you using now, 4349 or 4363?

Sorry, I meant the 4191 version. I have tried 4349 and 4363. They both result in the same display error. I have a feeling it is something with the setup, but i am not sure. Here is my XF86Config-4 file:

Here is the complete XFree log file with the new drivers

What chipset do you have? Does disabling AGP fix the problem?

The card is an Abit Geforce 3 Ti-200. What is the easiest way to disable AGP to test it out?

Add Option "NvAgp" "0"to the Device section of your XF86Config file.

Sorry, disabling AGP had no effect. The screen is displaying the graphics, but it's as if they are not the correct porportion for the screen and they overflow to the next pixel row, making everything a complete mess.

Well, I have found out the the graphics display is garbled only when I try to run a 1600x1200 desktop. When I got down to 1280x1024 it looks fine.
I am now using the latests drivers, and I still get the garbled screen when attempting 1600x1200. The older driver (4191) works fine at 1600x1200. What gives?
I think it might have something todo with the vsync and hsync values, but like I said, the other drivers could figure out what to do correctly. I'll check and see if they sync frequencies differ between drivers.
If anyone else had this problem, and solved it, let me know.

The Hsync and Vsync values are the same for each driver. The both run the screen at:
Default mode "1600x1200": 202.5 MHz, 93.8 kHz, 75.0 Hz
Can anyone at NVIDIA verify that this mode is supposed to work with the new drivers (4496) ?
A diff of the log files between the two drivers also shows little difference:
