Wow, what a let down. Big price jump for a tiny performance gain. I'm glad I went back to SLI for sure. Nothing's coming close to SLI'd GT's for the money. With the exeption of the 9600GT, this 9 series is looking like it could be a FAIL IMO. At least they're cheap.

EDIT: in fact that GTS looks very cheap.

It would be interesting to see it with a better CPU. That maybe holding back the score quite a bit. Hopefully anyway.

why uis it every bench is 3dmark there hasnt been one single game benched? It's making me even more skeptical about these benches

I dunno if I buy into that. Look at the SSC edition of the 9600GT, it is OC'ed by 90mhz. That means that the 9800GTS could easily come from the factory OC'ed higher than what the 9800GTX comes in at. So unless they are charging $100 more for something most people could do really easily, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

65nm and the clocks are little more conservative than I would like.

IWith 65nm, core clocks and shader clocks should be higher IMHO. But lets see..only a few weeks left

No one cares about 3dmark. The only benchmark score I care about is how well it can run Crysis @ 1280X1024 w/very high details and 4XAA. That's it! That's all I want!

I hate 3dmark, the scores can vary so much, and ti doesn't really tell you that much. Nonetheless, I still plan to stepup to a gx2 on the 18th(5 days before my stepup expires)

3D Mark is good for overclocking competition, and nothing more IMHO.

When I can get a smooth 40fps (about 10~15 more than I get right now w/o AA) out of crysis on max settings w/4Xaa from a single card, I'll get a new card.

I'm just so dissapointed that it's taking SO long (what are we at 2 years now?? with the G80 architecture) to get us a faster card.

I'm not really complaining as my ultra can devour everything besides crysis but geez.... it's kinda embarrasing for the whole GPU developer market in general.. I mean... even ATI's 3870 with TWO processors still can't even begin to keep up with the 8800ultra's single GPU. :(

Enough of these baby steps and mediocre budget cards. Give us the next mufasa! Say it again! MUFASA!

NVIDIA YOU HAVE FAILED THIS TIME

Don't you think you should wait until the card is actually out and we see some real benchmarks before you say something like that?

If it does turn out to be just an overclocked GTS then you stand correct. :)

I don't think NVIDIA hardware team failed, but their driver development failed. I think we can expect more performance out of 8800GTX/9800GTX. I think we are seeing only 65-70% of what Series 8 and Series 9 are capable of under Vista.

Based on these scores I can't see the drivers increasing the score to the point where I can justify dumping my 2x8800GTX for this. I guess I won't have to worry about new video cards for a while longer.

prices look good, but performance gain seems minimal.
