View Full Version : Aero not being disabled when Crysis DX10 is running

Well, I think it's common knowledge that Vuista disables Aero when a game is running. After noticing that the CPU Benchmark 2 DX10 had an average of 7fps while in DX9 mode it had almost 13, I noticed, too,. that Crysis DX10 won't disable Aero! I tried to disable aero manually and then running the benchmark and I got an average of 10fps. Not much, but better =D
(169.44)
I'll try with 174.31.

Tested with 174.31 and got the same results. Crysis DX10 (and any other DX10 title I tested) wouldn't disable Aero. All of them ran OK, except for crysis, that suffered a significant loss.

Bug?

The only game I have ever seen disable Aero was FSX.

Just force off Aero on the desktop, then run the DX10 version again...it should increase with Aero forced off, no?

therapture, I tried this and ran faster. Here, any game that use DX9 and any video using Video Overlay disable aero while they're running. DX10 games does not. DX10 is running faster than DX9, except from Crysis. Don't know about FSX.

you can change it in the shortcut to disable Aero when it runs

And here's (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/easily-disable-vistas-aero-before-running-an-application-such-as-a-video-game/) a link showing how to do it.

DX10 goes always windowed when something is showing up on ur desktop, no problems with this with DX9, a way to always stay full screen with DX10?

thx

try it in multi-monitor mode - this way you can see, that aero is disabled if a dx8/dx9/dx10 fullscreen app is running. the reason why you don't see it "disabled" with dx10 is simple, aero runs via a modified dx9 version - making a context switch from a dx9 game and re-enabling areo (when you hit alt+tab) is much more problematic - so vista does not do it. however making the same context switch from dx10 is much easier + faster because of the new video driver interface (wddm) and the architecture of the dx10 api (suspend shader execution, etc). - so vista re-enabled aero.

Works fine here with Aero or withought.

I ran the Crysis benchmarks with Aero On and Off...not even a single fps difference, just the same ".xx" variances we always see between runs. I think your testing method is flawed.

Yeah, but when I play Crysis, it goes windowed and I don't want to press those keys everytime while playing a game

I just want to stay fullscreen all the time

Best post ever! (nana2)

When you get DX10 running on it, tell me!
