cd rom and burner drive gone!?

the drive letter for the rom and burner have dissapeared ? (E) and (F) i tryed puttin the windows disc in to re-run 98se but the drives wouldnt work.i tryed the "add new hardware wizard" but i couldnt locate the cd rom or the burner ? i couldnt even find them listed under "control panel-system propertys-device manager" does anybody know how to fix this without reformatting?

This is a shot in the dark, but did you recently change anything with your case?
