View Full Version : If you aren't using Very High motion blur, you're missing some of the "wow"

I can do without some settings to gain performance, but Very High Motion blur is simply amazing. I was playing the nanosuit demo level, and it feels like you're watching (and controlling) a movie, due to the quality of the motion blur.

I cannot imagine how some people play without it, it just seems so wrong! (the picture below there is only motion blur on his fists, as that's all that was in motion). :)

I have a few screenshots of it, but of course, motion blur like many other post effects, are better experienced in motion than just seeing a still image of. :)

Isn't that more DOF?

(probably wrong)

No, in that image, I had just switched to unarmed, so his fists were coming up on screen, hence the motion. Depth of field would be this,

And here is one of motion blur when you're moving VERY fast, like it does in real life (like you spin around in a circle, and things begin to blur)

Yes I used very high motion blur in crysis, loved it. :D

Oh, I see :)

Well, it's not easy being the king of wrong you know.

Don't worry, I can see how they'd be confused from the first picture. :)

Lost Planet's DX10 (Very High) motion blur is as good as this if not better.

I think Lost Planet's is better than high in Crysis but Very High is tough to beat, hard to say... I know there is much less of a performance hit from it in Lost Planet.

my graphics card sucks for high motion blur lol

Crysis players pretty good on an 8600 though, on lower resolutions. My brother has one in his PC, and it does pretty good. :)

I haven't used it yet. i'm waiting for the next-gen GPU's for smooth experiance :(

I don't like motion blur... you could even say I hate it. One of the reasons I love PC is I can tailor the experience to what I like, which means no motion blur in any of my games. I mean... when I turn quickly it blurs realistically because of my eyes... adding blur to the game seems redundant and annoying to me.

But if you like it, it's cool Crytek made it of such high quality.

I love motion blur. I deliberately jerk my head around quickly everywhere I go so I have lots of RL motion blur.

You too? I thought I was the only one...

When I played HL2: E2 for the first time, or some other game with motion blur(can't exactly remember), I started to pay more attention to it IRL! :P

Ya, rly.

When you set it on max it makes me feel a bit like a bag of douche...

Silverchair and Alice in Chains FTW.

:p

BTW, I play with motion blur disabled. The game already runs at 20fps most of the time when I'm trying to aim, having it tank into the teens every time I move the mouse is just terrible.

I think we all do. :p

I'm finally playing through Crysis and it really doesn't run that bad, but it seems to run the worst at the worst possible time. I'm playing on Delta too. Its bad enough that the enemies are almost completely impervious to body shots (and don't even get me started on the nano suit soldiers that can take direct hits from rockets or 5 gauss rifle rounds to the chest...) and dance around erratically when shot at, but when I'm trying to fight scope-movement at 20fps at the same time it gets a bit annoying.

I have to say, for a highly trained super soldier in a nano suit, this guy can't hold a gun steady for crap... :p

Also, I wish there was a difficulty setting that didn't give the enemies absurd amounts of health and impossible accuracy but also took out the handicaps (English voices, grenade warnings etc.). It just seems lame that a guy in a plain old jacket can take a full assault rifle magazine to the chest point blank but he can spray out 3 perfectly aimed bullets from the same gun at 300 yards and kill me in my nano armor. :p

Same here. You guys that like it can have your motion blur and depth of field. I'll gladly play without either (I'm not a big fan of the overbright effects of bloom and HDR either). I've spent my money to have the most eye candy I can get and the clearest/cleanest picture. Bluring the image is the last thing I want. If I wanted blur, I'll just go back about 10 generations of vid cards that run so slow, moving the mouse will make everything blur. Give me crisp, clean, and fast.

To each his own blur.

When I move my head around really fast IRL I notice low framerates and choppiness. I need to upgrade my visual processor :(
