The title says it all. I am building a computer for my aunt, her needs are internet browsing, maybe some chat, and internet based poker websites FTW!!

Here is what I am thinking:
Motherboard with onboard video/audio
1 gb of value ram

I am getting hung up on what rpocessor to get. would a fast single core cpu be fast enough? Or would a slow daul core be better? She won't be doing any multitasking so I though a daul core would be overkill.

Going to be running xp, on a 17" crt.

Mini itx solutions?
Minti ITX mobo - 945G - USD$50-60
Celeron - USD$50-60
DDR2 mem 1 GB - USD$60 or so
ITX case - USD$60 or so
Slim DVD - USD$70 or so
2.5" notebook HDD - USD$50 or so
Cost = around less than $400?

Or you could try getting the new Shuttle KPC or sumat which is supposed to be around USD$100?

You could also look at one of the linux solutions offered by retailers. Would be good for someone like an aunt not to worry with anti-virus, and the like.

The Wal-Mart everex is $199. 1.5GHz VIA C7-D processor, 512MB of DDR 2 memory, an 80GB hard drive and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW

This looks very close to one I put together on newegg the other day. That 780G looks like a really nice chipset. You don't skimp on the video too much because flash and java crap on some sites is getting surprisingly system heavy. You don't want the computer to be slow as dirt in a couple years just because of the video chip. I think the 780G will be perfect.

Ya I just read a review over at bit-tech on the 780g, it seems like a great product from amd, first one in three years:p

mullet, i like that build right there. do you think itd be enough for blu ray playback if you hooked up an internal blue ray drive?

I think it would be.

I don't know about multitasking while playing a bluray movie, but it'd probably work fine with a decent CPU.

Smooth and stutter-free playback is no longer possible with an even slower processor, such as an AMD Sempron 64 3000+ running at 1.60 GHz. Some of the scenes created a CPU load of 100%, causing the system to drop frames - due to the low performance of the Sempron 3000+, the 200 MHz clock-speed difference has a huge impact. Our conclusion is that the Sempron 3200+ marks the lower limit for smooth Blu-ray playback.

If a Sempron can do it im sure a Athlon 64 X2 4000+ can.

If I were to get a Blu-Ray box this is what I would get.
