I have two .3gp files on my desktop. These are cell phone video files.....if I try to do anything with them....delete...copy..move...Vista hangs and crashes out Explorer.

WTF.

Oh and if I try to DEL them via CMD PROMPT....the CMD PROMPT just hangs.

disable or remove any codec you have installed for that file format.

I run the Vista Codec pack. It's been flawless for the last year.

ANYWAY...

I had to boot in to safe mode to del those file...what the hell.

I can also play those files AS LONG as they are NOT on the desktop.

if you would notice vista codec pack development, recently he added an option to disable thumbnail creation for some file types, because of possible crashes or other issues.

Just use GOM. I gave up on install codecs long ago.

Use klite on my HTPC tho. ::D:

I've used a prog called MoveOnBoot in the past for files that wouldn't "delete".

will DOS read NTFS partitions?
Yes, but not by default. There are some 3rd party software that will add it in. I'd use Ultimate Boot CD and use "Avira NTFS4DOS Personal" under it. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Every now and then you come across stubborn files both in Vista and XP, a little utility like Unlocker has never let me down.......
