Thanks man - that was indeed a fast mirror, don't think I've ever downloaded a driver with 2mb/s+!
Hmm, gonna check these out and report back. I still play a lot of cnc3, so this could be a problem, but it's nice to see that the pdvd playback issue was fixed. :)
Edit: Getting no errors in cnc3, but I do still get the unsupported graphics driver in powerdvd. :-/
Odd.....I wonder if it is something on my end. Though I notice you do have a different card as well (8800 GTS (G92)). Are you using sp1 by chance? I'll have to look more into it, it could be something to do with the game though...
.11 hehe, you're right, good one.
I would like to see a release either beta or WHQL for 8 series of the 174's that don't need a modded inf. :(

Me to....there are too many unofficial drivers to go through to choose.....
Edit: you can read more about my issues with flickering and 174.xx drivers here:

I ended up moving over to 171.20, which seems stable (no flickering/flashes)

I tried cnc3, crysis, dawn of war, hl2, cs:source and all of them ran without a hitch for me. :/
Still can't get powerdvd to work with these though, and I think it has to do with the modified inf - haven't gotten a single driver that used a modified inf to work with it. Every driver with native support for the 8-series work flawlessly on the other hand, so that's gotta be the problem. So I'm stuck with the 169.44s for now.
Great driver for those who don't use powerdvd though! Highly recommended!

Again....it is very odd that one machine the drivers work fine, and another it does not. On another forum, some one mentioned that there were several errors in these drivers:
I've noticed 2 issues with the modded driver:
1. (A very minor bug) In the INF file, the line
NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0612.1 = "NVIDIA G92-420"
should have read:
NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0612.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX"
This is needed for proper recognition of 9800GTX (it's minor because the GTX isn't out yet).
2. Modes.txt is heavily wrong, this might be the source of the flashing problems. Here is the fixed version. (http://www.pastebin.ca/raw/942743)

Yeah it's weird, but most people don't use driver cleaners which leaves old files on the system and causes driver conflicts.
I fixed the powerdvd problem with these by using the 169.44 inf file.

Those aren't errors or bugs and will have no effect on the performance/stability of the drivers for a majority of users.

As long as the correct DeviceID (NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0612.1) is there, the 9800GTX will be "recognized". It doesn't matter what the string name is, you could even name it like this if you wanted to:
NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0612.1 = "My Fast Vid Card"
Modes.txt is heavily wrong, this might be the source of the flashing problems.
modes.txt is only used by legacy monitors that cannot be polled for EDID refresh rate info. Modern CRTs and LCDs are all plug and play.

Thats pure rubbish, sorry.
- the name of the card dosent matter at all... you can call it "Bugs Bunny", if you want
- the "modes.txt" ist just for information to the user... you can delete ist, rename it or fill it with trash
(so you can use the post from the Guru3D-Guy in there, if you want ;-)

Did that before, with my 6800GT after I volt modded, NV-5 Coolered and then overclocked the crap outta it.
