THinking about buying anew futureproof motherboard...
for the latest dual core and quadcores 1333mhz FSB processors. Would like to reach as close as possible to ~ 4Ghz.
but also support for the fastest DDR2 memory.

As a bonus will be nice if it also support latest Quadcores with 12megs of L2.

I dont need RAid , wireless ,firewall ,SLi or fancy features.. just a powerfull motherboard for heavy overclocking with support for DDR2 and if possible DDR3 too..

any experts?

uh nothing you buy now will work with the new cpus coming in Q4. Nehalem based chips will use a different socket than is available now and will require DDR3.

beat me to it.

yeah, Intel is following the 2+ year old (3+ when delivered) AMD approach of putting the memory controller into the CPU chip.

all current : MB's, CPU's and DDR2, will hit the upgrade wall by year end. Intel though will likely produce 775 compatible processors for another year.

guess-timates are 5-10% performance improvement.

not enough reason to wait another year IMHO. But, I'm overdue for a full MB+CPU myself. waiting for e8500+X48. Or, at last for more reviews to see if its worth it over x38+ e8400

By "latest Quadcores with 12mb" I suppose he is refering to the Q9450, Q9300 etc. (Yorksfield was it?)
Not Nehalem.

Looking for a mobo for that aswell, been out of it for a while and Im not really sure what to look for..
Is the Abit IP35 still a good board compared the newer ones on the newer chipsets?
(also looking for a DDR2 board)

if you want to OC, DFI is your brand. check out the reviews online. the boards are proven performers.

He said he wanted support for DDR2 and DDR3. ASUS P5KC has both not sure of the overclocking of it however. http://asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=534&l4=0&model=1694&modelmenu=1
