I'm considering ditching my 3 drive setup for a 2 drive setup. I currently have 2x 80gb in RAID0 for C: and a 320gb standalone for D:. C: is where my OS and installs reside. D: is where all my backups and downloads reside.

I'm thinking of getting a 750gb Samsung F1 (or comparable, recommend me something) to replace them all, then adding in another one later (or sooner, have to check finances) and creating a RAID1 array. Can this be done? Can I just simply add another drive in there and build the array?

My RAID controller is a Promise FastTrak TX2300 (http://www.promise.com/product/product_detail_eng.asp?segment=RAID%200/1%20HBAs&product_id=136).

No, don't think so. You'll have to backup and then create the array. :(

So I have to have both drives for RAID1 up front?

You must create the array before you install anything even .
So back up your stuff format and create your array.
Then go on to partition the array.
