A low end 45nm quad core for the masses!!! You can order a Q9300 on tigerdirect.com now, seems like a good deal, it's clocked 100mhz faster than a Q6600, and only costs $30 more.

Anyone actually planning to buy one of these at this price, or are you witing for demand to go down a bit.

I might bite, in particular if the idle power consumption is low and if it runs in my MSI 975x. (No, I didn't look up yet whether that's possible at all)

Yeah I want to buy one as well, but I wish I had money to spare. I just got done charging 1200$ to my cc for engine repairs. YAY!

The multi on this is pretty low. You'd need to hit 500Mhz with your RAM and your FSB if you wanted 3.75Ghz. 4Ghz is pretty much out of the question. Keep that in mind if you're a big overclocker.

I wouldn't. 120 will buy you an E8400, clocked 20% faster and with double the L2 cache. It's a less powerful chip overall, but unless you'e using heavily multithreaded apps, the 8400 will perform better. If you spend the 70 difference on other upgrades, like 2x2GB of RAM or a 750GB HDD, things will be better still.

Very true, but the rate of diminishing returns, at least in terms of gaming performance, is pretty sharp after 3.2-3.4GHz. If you're doing some hardcore media encoding or similar tasks you might want something beefier.
