View Full Version : D10U to follow 9-Series NOT GT200
There has been some confusion lately, so let me try to clarify. After the 9-series launches, it will not be followed by the GT200, but rather D10U, which is based on a 55nm technology. D10U is going to compete with R700, and GT200, will hopefully murder it.
Comes before GT200
Nvidia plans to launch a new chip and new cards based on it. From what we've learned the new card will be codenamed D10U and the chip behind the card will be manufactured at 55nm.
We also heard that the architecture will be G92 / D8P-like, but somewhat cooler due to the smaller chip. We guess that this product will fight the new revision of the RV670 chips, but the real competitor is RV770, the chip that should come after this summer.
We know that the D10U will end up hot, but as long as it scores, people don’t care that much

D10U and probably more
Nvidia should have its 55nm chips ready in Q2, and this time we got an even more precise date than just a quarter. When a company say it launches something in Q2, we always hope for early Q2; but in reality it always comes at the end of the quarter.
Nvidia won't make an exception, as its 55nm parts should launch around June time, which is the last month of the quarter. As of today, Nvidia's 55nm chip looks like an advanced and die shrunk version of its well-known G92 chip, but we are still missing many details about it.
At least Nvidia can show the world that it can do it, but we won’t miss the chance to remind you that this will occur more than six months after ATI managed to launch its first 55nm chip. In the meantime, all ATI chips are 55nm, while Nvidia is still at 65nm.

SO expect this in june, and the GT200 in Q3/Q4(September?)

The inq is a pos, but fudzilla has really turned it around over the past 6 months. I have yet to see a totally false article coming from them... They nailed the gx2 specs in December, they are good at what they do.
So what? We'll get another refurbished g92? While lower power consumption and higher clocks are indeed nice, these aren't the things that will make crysis run decent on higher settings. The industry is going down the drain without competition!

Ya thats what it sounds like.... Should come with an extremely low price, it's needs to have some advantage over ati's Rv770. There should be more to it than just a simple die shrink.
I'm thinking:
gdr4(maybe 1gb) = Higher clocks
55nm = even higher clocks
tweaks inside of the gpu = slightly better performance.
Seems like these two generations (9-series and D10u) should have been combined into one card, seems like wasted resources, R&D is expensive.
I like the idea of Nvidia launching 3 generations of cards in one year.:D
D10U , G100 , GT200 .. whatever the codename , just give me a true next gen GPU!

Your going to have to wait until q3/q4 for that!!!

I'd be surprised if we see GT200 at all this year.
3 new 'series' of GPU releases from NVIDIA in one year? Doubtful.
:thumbdwn:
I also think its possible that the 55nm GPUs may not debut until Q3/Q4, 6 months after the launch of the 9 series would seem more the norm?
If AMD would only release the R700 series and get some competition going again, well Intel and Larabee can only be viewed as a welcome addition to an otherwise NVIDIA dominated industry.
Having one company in a dominant position is bad for consumers, the high end 9 series is a testament to that IMHO.
9 series (high end) = minimum performance increase, minimum tech innovation (if not a step back, I like my 384-bit memory bus and 768MB mem thanks) and maximum prices.
I'll be hanging onto my 8800GTX.

That can play crysis at 1920 x 1200 with 4xAA and 16xAF at 50fps please. Still haven't played crysis yet.

Just a lil fix :D

Do you think that intel is actually going to deliver on entering the enthusiest gpu market with Larbee? Or is it going to be a joke, a slight stepup from integrated graphics.

That's hard to say. Intel has taken a special interest in Ray-tracing. Seems their putting a lot of effort into making their card highly efficient for ray-tracing. Not sure if that's gonna' pay off or not. I do know that with all the resources they have at thier disposal, they should atleast be able to compete with whatever nVidia barfs out.
As for ATi and the R700... *crosses fingers*

Yeh, QFT! Even 30fps... I'm not going to change my mobo and get another GTX just to get the min fps over 20fps at 1920x1200, which may not increase fps alot anyway due to Vista. 8800/9800 is simply NOT powerful enough to run this game at any decent resolution/settings and I'm doubtful this D10U will be either.
I don't really care for the price, give us a real next-gen single card so I can upgrade and play Crysis!

What has been the longest that a game has been out before the hardware could actually play it all the way cranked up, was far cry like this with the 6-series?

Well, the 6800GT/Ultra blew through FarCry untill you tried to use HDR. Only with SLi could you get solid framerates. It wasn't untill the 7-series that you could play FarCry with 100% everything maxed and not dip below 30fps.

wasn't the 5900's the top cards when Far Cry was released though? I'm pretty sure that's what I had when Far Cry came out.

The 5950U and 9800XT were the two top cards at that time, yes. But neither could seriously play the game at uber high resolutions with AA and AF untill the 6800s and X850XT PE. Even then, with HDR you need the 7 series to enjoy the game in all its glory.

Yeh, but 6800s were released just 2-3 months after Far Cry came out, but to be fair not many of us had 1920x1200 screens back then so naturally the game ran great at 1280x1024 etc and people were happy.

lol
I had a 5950U. My monitor's max res was 1600x1200 back then. For FarCry, I played it at 800x600, 2xAA, 16xAF, and all in-game options maxed. Looked wicked awesome, ran at a 100% consisten 30fps. I was happy. :D :p

A new 9 series is a waste of money. Perhaps Nvidia should spend all that money to get decent damn drivers....
