vista 64:
http://www.koehling.eu/forceware/nvidia_forceware_174.53_vista_x64.exe

for those saying that BD or HD-DVD playback doesn't work, that the driver that i downloaded, and it works just fine
Nope it doesn't. Believe me I've tried it. The Cyberlink advisor says that it should work but it doesn't and it's got to do with the modded inf(laptopvideo2go, should really remove some of the things in their inf); made my own and now it works.

EDIT: When I looked at the inf, I found a string that said "CopyInf = nvhda.inf" only for the 9600gt. Does anyone know what that could be?

Does it have anything to do with hd audio?

Forgot to mention it was for vista 64 ^^. I'll see what I can do about the vista 32-bit driver.

EDIT: Modded Vista 32 inf added. Same instructions apply. :)

Excellent! Thanks, Toss3 (nana2)

That has nothing to do with the drivers; it's the modded inf that's causing the problems. Try installing these drivers with the 169.61 inf and I promise you it will solve your problems.

EDIT: Modded the original inf(original 174.53 inf!) myself and surprise surprise no more powerdvd problems. Decided to upload a modified inf for the 8- and 9-series of cards(not mobile devices), for those who are having problems with powerdvd.

Rename file to nv_disp.inf and put it into your extracted installation folder(usually c:\windows\nvidia\driver number)
Now run setup.exe from this folder(or install from device manger -update driver)

VISTA 64 ONLY!

could you add support to mobile 8600M GT?

Anyone with Lord of the Rings Online want to test these running in Windowed mode (or Crysis in Windowed mode).

I get a blue screen with anything above 169.xx drivers in these two games. They run really well in Fullscreen though.

Anyone want to try Crysis or Lord of the Rings Online in windowed mode for me? :)

The reason why it's so huge is because it supports every desktop and laptop card out there. And there's also a huge section just for reg tweak entries (which is why I don't use it). Anyways, there are only 2 lines that need to be added to the orginal INF and that is the DeviceID and String Name for your card. That's it.

If I had to guess, HDA = high definition acceleration. Probably has something to do w/ one of the new features of this driver (Dual-Stream Decode Acceleration).

Added support for the 8600m gt, but as the inf didn't support any mobile devices from the beginning, I had to use the same string I used for all cards. ^^ Don't know if it'll make any difference, but hopefully it won't be a problem. :o

I know you only have to add a couple of things to make it work, I never said it was complicated. But what I don't get why they need all those things(90% of it is completely unnecessary). And if I were to guess I would say they just copy over strings from old drivers that don't have working video acceleration.

Did a quick search on google and it seems like it has something to do with hd audio(the nvhda.inf seemed to be located in a hd audio folder).

Another reason why it's so huge is because it's the International version of the INF, so all those multilingual CP/help entries as well as corresponding uninstall entries need to be there. But the main reason is mobile-related entries and the tweak section. BTW, the International version of this driver has an English "setup.inf" file when it's supposed to have an International version. This would prevent the International driver from installing any files. So to get around this, mobilenv added all the multilingual files directly into the "nv4_disp" file install section, greatly increasing the size.

I'm guessing your Google searches were referencing the HD audio driver of the latest nforce chipsets. There have never been subdirectories in the GPU drivers.

Well, the size of the inf doesn't really matter- even though there is a ton of useless stuff in there, probably left-overs from older drivers. What matters to me is that the modified inf laptopvideo puts into their drivers doesn't work correctly.

Using the new drivers and so far so good. TDU seemed less hitchy and gained a few fps. Will check some more games later. Thnks for the modified inf.

this modded inf is working wonders! And the explanation of the laptop drivers makes sense as to why alot of 'older' 8 series owners are having problems with the later 174.xx sets.

Tried these last night, and got worse performance in FFOW :( FPS Definitelty slower.

My performance in Frontlines was awful with 169.44, 174.xx was smoother. However in Vista Frontlines doesn't run well, it runs much better under XP with either 169.44 or 174.xx.

I think I'm gonna go back to 174.16. My performance with the 174.53 WHQL'd is worse. I can't get anything higher than +90FPS in CoD4 and my 3DMark06 score dropped about 700 points.

Tell me about it. I've had these cards only for a couple of weeks now and have changed drivers 4 times already.
It is good to see Nvidia releasing more sets though. They where quite quiet there for a while.

I have been playing Crysis, COD4 and Gears of War (UT3 Engine) I still use the 174.74's. No problems in any games.
